Android has gone from non-existent to being the most popular Smartform platform in under 3 years. To put it into perspective, twice as many Android devices are sold as iOS devices.

One of the biggest reason is that it's an open source platform. It has a huge developer community, actively working. Hence it any person faces any problem in the development phase, there is a quick help available ate the back end. The community members are always available for support. Hence this increases the use of Android development.

I agree with the Alice. The main reason behind its growth is that it is a open source platform. And so Android Application development has gain momentum.

1) At a minimum, 6 different electronics manufacturers make 20+ devices that run the Android operating system. Compared to three (iPhone, iPad, iPod) from Apple. So why is Android so popular compared to Apple? Because it's being out manned by shear quantity of competitor devices. If you want to run iOS you select one of the three options above, but if you want to run Android, you have a ton of different device choices.
2) Android development, unlike iOS development, is open source and it can be performed on Windows, OS X, Linux, etc... Whereas, Apple development tends to require all development be done on a Mac. Greater development versatility, leads to more developers developing for that platform.

There are numerous reasons contributing to the popularity of android app development. Well but biggest one and perhaps the most important contributor are the variety of applications that android offers. They are cool, stylish, informative as well as useful. They match up with the expectations of the current generation. For businesses, android application development comes as an opportunity. For developers, the biggest reason to opt for android is the open source platform that it provides. I personally like android because of its stylish and useful apps.
