My dev says can't be done with Google Maps???
I am paying developers for an Android tracking app that uses google maps.
I designed the API and coded all the server side scripts myself (in Perl).
In theory the app could display many map pins (100+ perhaps?) at once.
When the user taps on a pin an info box comes up.
I want the data for these boxes to be downloaded (via AJAX type call) on an as needed basis, ONLY at the time each pin is clicked on.
Since the positions of some of the pins could change frequently and the user may make frequent use of a "refresh" button being designed into the app I don't want to waste bandwidth and CPU constantly downloading all of the "info" data over and over, since most of it will likely never even be used between refreshes.
My developer just told me that this is NOT possible. His exact words: "Due to some api limitation we have no way but to download all the data (pop-up boxinfo) at once."
Huh? Is this possibly true???????????????? (Doesn't seem right to me)
Many THANKS in advance for any guidance anybody can provide.

Which API is this?
If it's the "I designed the API and coded all the server side scripts myself" API, then surely you already know the answer.
