Programming an app for Android tablet

    Hy there!

I am a student in my final years of collage, where i studied computer science. I consider myself a good programmer, and i enjoy coding in C++. But for my thesis I decided to write an application for a tablet like Nexus 7 and others that have Android OS. The application would be something like a diary app for teachers, but with many other functions including statistical informations about their students, charts from that information, the option of making pictures and thus the GUI would need to be quite good.
But i do not know where to start... I found a couple of SDK-s but unfortunately i have no experiences with programming for Android, so if anybody has experiences with programming apps for Android i would be very grateful for helping me out.
The ones i found were these:
    Corona SDK
    PhoneGap
    Marmalade
    Titanium
    Xamarine

I was mainly thinking of using Mamalade, what do you think?

I was in the same place as you

I also wanted to learn android, and the more i worked with it, the more confused I got.

I am in no way an expert yet, but what I can tell you is I figured out you need to learn the basics of Java and how to use the eclipse IDE to get anywhere with android.

Here is where I started and things are now making much more sense:

Im too new to link a web site,
    so google: java made easy
the site will be the first one google returns and it is actually called, Java-Made-Easy ,

developing for android uses eclipse IDE with android plugins,
the search above, will help you get eclipse installed, show you how to use it, and get you the basics of Java.

by the way, that site is totaly free, no donations or sign up or anything it will tell you where to get everything you need.

best of luck, hope this helps, I know it did me.

an idea of how much java to know, to program android

Here are some quoits from a commercial web site about their Android course :

    Android™ Bootcamp Training Course

    Prerequisites [top]

To take this course, you MUST know Java. You should be able to answer most of the following questions:

What is a difference between a class and an object?
What is the difference between static and non-static field?
What is the difference between extends and implements keywords?
What is an anonymous inner class?
What is the purpose of @Override?
