Hi there...I'm having the same 100% CPU problem...Although it isn't from a firewall nor antivirus running...

When my system starts, there are only 20 processes and the CPU usage is at 1% or less...Now when I used to run the game RTCW it ran fine, nothing unusual, my system handled it vERY well...But now when I load RTCW the CPU usage jumps to 99%....very aggravating...

System specs
Abit NF7-S mainboard
AMD Barton 2500+ CPU
Dual 256 400MHz turbo Mem
60 and 160 gig maxtors
Nvidia FX5600 256mb

PLEASE HELP!

Please download HijackThis. Make sure you install HijackThis to a permanent folder such as C:\HJT as it creates backups of what we will fix. Run the program, click the button at the top "Do a system scan and save a logfile". Save the log to a convenient place such as C:\HJT Notepad will open, copy and paste the entire log into your post. Do not fix anything yet, most of what's in the log is needed!

You even quoted Tom saying to create a new thread for new problems. So I've split this thread and hopefully someone will be available to help.

post a list fo the processes running when you run your pc.
run "tasklist" from cmd propmt and pipe the output to any file. then post the file here.
or a hijackthis log. it will help explain why your cpu is being hogged.
are you running any antivirus scanner in the background? maybe norton autoprotect or something like that ? any new installations since which you have noticed the fall in performance ? is your system windows XP ? do you have sp2 ?
