I have the dreaded 100% CPU usage problem
Have eliminated various malware etc but the problem remains. taskmgr.exe itself seems to be the problem which is consuming 50% + of CPU. I used to be able to eliminate it for a day or two by running Spybot. Now the problem wont even go away temporarily I searched the web forhours and have not been able to find any similar problems Any ideas much appreciated Logfile of HijackThis v1.97.7 Scan saved at 21:02:07, on 03/09/2004 Platform: Windows XP SP1 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP1 (6.00.2800.1106) Running processes: D:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe D:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe D:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe D:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe D:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe D:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe D:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccSetMgr.exe D:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccEvtMgr.exe D:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe D:\WINDOWS\System32\CTsvcCDA.exe E:\Program Files\Norton Internet Security\Norton AntiVirus\navapsvc.exe D:\WINDOWS\System32\nvsvc32.exe D:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\SNDSrvc.exe D:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe D:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\CCPD-LC\symlcsvc.exe D:\WINDOWS\System32\MsPMSPSv.exe E:\Program Files\Norton Internet Security\Norton AntiVirus\SAVScan.exe D:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE D:\WINDOWS\Cyb2k.exe E:\Program Files\MUSICMATCH\MUSICMATCH Jukebox\mm_tray.exe E:\PROGRA~1\MOUSE&~1\Mouse\Amoumain.exe D:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe E:\Program Files\MUSICMATCH\MUSICMATCH Jukebox\mmtask.exe E:\PROGRA~1\MOUSE&~1\Keyboard\Ikeymain.exe D:\WINDOWS\System32\spool\drivers\w32x86\3\hpztsb09.exe D:\Program Files\Creative\SBAudigy2\Surround Mixer\CTSysVol.exe D:\WINDOWS\System32\CTHELPER.EXE D:\Program Files\Creative\SBAudigy2\DVDAudio\CTDVDDet.EXE E:\Program Files\iPOD\bin\iPodManager.exe D:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccApp.exe E:\Program Files\iPOD\bin\iPodService.exe E:\Program Files\Spybot - Have you tried scanning your comp for a virus yet? Taskmgr.exe should only take up that much usage when you call it. Any other time it shouldn't be taking up that much system resource. Other than that all I can tell you is to change some of the exe's to run only when needed. Hope this helps.

I had a similar issue w/ taskmgr.exe
When I ran my intervideo winDVD software I noticed a reduction in system performance and saw the taskmgr.exe using 100% the of CPU cycles. I used various adware / spyware (hijackthis, adaware, spybot, spyware blaster) programs and didn't find anything odd.
I tried to determine what had changed. I remembered I had installed XP SP2 recently so I determined that was likely the cause. I updated the BIOS on my system from A06 to the latest A32. Worked like a charm!!!! No more issues. |
