718:qttask.exe Message pops up everytime I start my pc! Help!
Everytime I start up my pc I get the above error.
This started to happen about two days ago. The only thing I've done is activate the encoding for Chinese and Korean from the Win 2000 Professional disk. I have a system snapshot in Spyware Blaster from A week ago. Should I just go back and restore my pc to that snapshot? THe Chinese / Korean encoding isn't super important. It just puts Chinese or Korean characters on their websites instead of the usual hieroglyphics! Thanks for helping! Tom Myboy here? ![]() |

Hi teacher4u!
Have you considered reinstalling Quicktime? Do you have any other errors to report? Tom

Hi Tom!
Tom,As usual,"You da man!" I woulda never figured that the qt in that error message stood for Quick time! I thought it was referring to one of the girls I see around here in SoCal,as in ,"That one's sure a cutie!" So when I reinstalled the latest Quick Time from Download.com, the message started popping up like mushrooms in the cow pasture after a big rain. Hope you understand that means lotsa times! So then I figured,"Do I really need QuickTime player?" I usually use Windows Media Player anyway! So I uninstalled QuickTime, restarted, and "voila", no irritating message! I just finished ridding my 2 daughters' pcs of IbisToolbar, WhenUsearch, Wild Tangent, and a host of other despicable intruders. It kinda gives you a good feeling to do that, sorta like pulling those green monster worms off the tomato plants, and feeding them to the sparrows in the front yard. I don't know if you've ever had that rewarding experience, but I recommend it as a future project. Sometimes a sparrow will have a super hard time getting airborne lifting a 5" tomato worm. Alas, I wax poetic!
Thanks sooo much for being there Tom! If you're ever in SoCAl, look me up or give me a heads up before coming! You've got a friend! ![]() |

Tom,In another thread(I got ruledor virus),I ran Hijack This and one of the items was:
"O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime" Could this be what was causing the problem in this thread? I've uninstalled QuickTime, but I'll probably have to re-install it some time inthe future. Your opinion? Thanks,teacher4u PS Here's my other thread! http://forums.devshed.com/showthrea...32&goto=newpost |

Hi Teacher4u!
No, it shouldn't be related! You will probably get further instructions from Grinler. You know the old saying... Too many hands in the log spoils the ... OH no wait ![]() "O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime" is: System Tray access to Apple's "Quick Time" viewer from version 5 onwards If you uninstalled QT, you should be able to remove it from your log.
