No problem, I should have explained!

At the very top of this web page there is a User CP link. That is your control panel. Just click it and you will see your message!

Ok, I'd like you to boot into Safe Mode (tap F8 as you computer first starts booting).

Remove these items with hijackthis:

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant =
F2 - REG:system.ini: UserInit=Userinit.exe,

Run CWShredder and select "Fix" (do not just Scan). It will automatically remove the infections.

Reboot normally and post a fresh HijackThis log.

How is you computer behaving now?

Tom

Hi Tom,

Sorry for the late reply, I tried to delete the following items from the hijackthis log:

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant =
F2 - REG:system.ini: UserInit=Userinit.exe,

However they keep re-appearing , Even though I tried to remove them in safe mode they still they kept coming back !!!

I still cant get rid of the "http://xysearch.biz/?wmid=3305" homepage and I still cant access my hotmail account properly

This is my latest hijackthis log:

Ok Raz, we'll get this little bugger yet!

Please download Regook.

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/reglook.php

Download and extract the contents of the zip file to c:\reglook. Then double-click on runme.bat. When the program has completed running it will open a notepad that contains some information. Copy the contents of notepad in to you next post.

Tom

Hi Tom, Thanx for all your support so far ,

I downloaded the Reglook file and I also extracted it to C:/reglook, however when I run the "runme.bat" file, it comes up with the following message:

"Cannot find the RegLook.log File, Do you want to create a new file? "

When I pressed the "yes" button, all I got was a blank page in notepad.

Also as soon as I pressed "runme.bat" two new files got created, named: "RL_error.log" and "RR9500.exe". When I opened the RL_error.log file the following was written on the first line:

"Restored __eFSQRT (Ordinal 1249) (at 77FC273C)"

Then this was followed with like a million zeros !!!! and some other numbers and letters as well.

When I pressed the "RR9500.exe" file it opened up another notepad file named: "RegRead.log" and all that was written in the notepad was:

A reg_look by IMM

[Shell] = "SYS:Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon" (REG_SZ)

Im sorry if i havent explained it all well. I tried to extract the file again thinking that I might have missed out a file or something while extracting, but after doing it 3 times im still getting the above results .

Thanx for all your help so far, please tell me if I need to give you any more information, or if you think I have done something wrong.

RAZ

Ok, you're doing great!!! It's a new tool (to me at least) and the errors you reported are ok. We now have the information we need. Thanks to dvk01 (Derek) for the fix!

I'd like you you download Pocket Killbox.

http://download.broadbandmedic.com/Killbox.exe

Download it to your Desktop. Run the program, copy and paste each of these lines below into the box, select delete on reboot and end explorer shell before deleting. On any dll file tick unregister dll before deleting, then press the red X button, when it says reboot now, say no and continue to paste the lines in in turn and follow the above procedure every time, DO NOT let it reboot yet.

C:\WINDOWS\System32\TGBRFV_.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\TGBRFV_5.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\TGBRFV_.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\TGBRFV_5.exe

When each of these lines have been entered correctly:

Go to Start > Run and type %temp% in the Run box, press OK . The Temp folder will open. Click Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of that Temp folder.

Reboot your computer and post a fresh HijackThis log.

Tom

Horray!!!!

The "a-search.biz" / "xysearch.biz" has gone!!!! And been replaced with the rightful "yahoo.co.uk" . I did all that you said above in your last post and as soon as I restarted the computer I was able to change the homepage (without it turning back to the a-search.biz).

Thank you VERY much!!!!! I was thinking that it would NEVER go away!!!

However im still having the problem with the hotmail, you see I can go into the hotmail webpage ("www.hotmail.com"), but once I type the username and password and press the "sign in" button, the url changes to:

https://loginnet.passport.com/ppsecure/post.srf?lc=2057&id=2&tw=20&fs=1&cbid=24325&da=passport.com&kpp=2&svc=mail&msppjph=1

which I guess is the right url, however the screen remains blank and at the bottom it says: "Done".

However when I type "www.hotmail.com" AGAIN into the address bar, it THEN goes into my inbox.

Do you think this is a spyware / virus problem, or do you think its a security setting of mine. I did try and turn off zonealarm and then try and access hotmail but the same thing happened. My security settings are set at "Medium" which is what I always had.

This is my latest hijackthis scan:

That makes two of us!

We will try to address the Hotmail issue once we get you cleaned up.

Logoff your internet connection. Run HijackThis, click scan, place a checkmark next to the following items. Close all browsers and any other windows or the fix may not work! Click "fix checked". It is OK if some of these items are no longer listed.

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant =
F2 - REG:system.ini: UserInit=Userinit.exe,TGBRFV_

Reboot your computer.

Browse to a few random sites with IE.

Please post a fresh HijackThis log.

Tom

Looks clean to me!

Because you were infected, backups of the malware may be in System Restore.

1 Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2 Click the System Restore tab.
3 Check the "Turn off System Restore" or "Turn off System Restore on all drives" check box.
4 Click Apply
5 this will delete all existing restore points. Click Yes to do this.
6 Click OK.

Reboot

1 Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2 Click the System Restore tab.
3 Uncheck the "Turn off System Restore" or "Turn off System Restore on all drives" check box.
4 Click Apply
5 Click OK.

Create a new Restore Point:

Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore > tick Create a Restore Point > Next > enter a name for the Restore Point Creation (Today, Removed Spyware, etc.) > Create > Close.

The date and time will automatically be added.

Next...

I don't see an antivirus program running in your log...

AVG has a new, free version available - AVG7 Free edition:

http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php.

Be sure to update it right away and perform a full system scan.

Once you have completed the above items, post back to this thread and tell me how things are going and if you can access your hotmail account.

Tom

Hi Tom,

I did everything u said in your last post and I downloaded the antivirus program u suggested (its great btw !!! ), and even though it did pick up a few viruses it still didnt solve the hotmail problem .

However I have now installed "Mozilla Firefox", which seems to work perfectly and doesnt have any hotmail problems or anything . So I guess I will stick to that for accessing my hotmail.

Thanx for ALL your help!!!! My computer is now sooo fast and almost as good as new . Here is my latest Hijackthis log (in case there are any last few remaining bugs in my computer) :
