There is evidence of the "Home Search Assistent" (sic) parasite. I'd heartily recommend downloading the About Buster and running it according to its read me file.

http://www.snapfiles.com/get/aboutbuster.html

and then run Hijack This again...

Joyous Monkey,
Thanx for your reply......
Just to let you know while I was waiting I read some other posts of the same problem so I figured I'd give it a shot......I went and updated my windows updates (I needed 12 of them it said).
I also ran CWShredder in normal mode and safe mode. It found something and got rid of it.
I also ran spybot (with updates) it found stuff and cleaned it
I also ran adaware (with updates) it found stuff and cleaned it

Tonite I'm meaning to post my new hijack log after I did all this stuff....the good news unless it's premature is that the stupid about:blank doesn't hijack me when I go to yahoo.mail anymore. Do you think I'm clean??

If I don't here back from you I will still try to run aboutbuster and then post the new hijack log after I ran aboutbuster.....I think aboutbuster gives a log also...I will try to post that one as well.........guess you can't scrub it too clean now could you?
thanx

aboutbuster did not run for me

Joyous Monkey,
I tried to run aboutbuster twice, I updated before I tried of course. Both times it just stood threre 'idle and waiting' so then I gave up on it.

I do have a question.....when I ran spybot or CWS I think it asked me if this file is ok:
C:windows\ctdrvins.exe
I did not delete since I'm not sure. The properties tab says it's a creative driver installer/unistaller program.

Here is the latest hijack log:

Download the trial version of SpySweeper. When Spybot and adaware can't get rid of it use SpySweeper (much better but no free version, just trial). Also, CWS is a useless tool. The homepage is always down and it catches the really, really old variants. I just had CW.SmartSearch.2 on my comp (previously unheard of) and SpySweeper got it. Smartsearch is the hardest adware to get rid of because it is polymorphic (changes, internal code, size, name, properties, etc.).

thanx midfielder100
but I got some bad news....I couldn't leave good enough alone....I was tired of netzero crashing on me everytime I logged off so I thought I'd reinstall it off the cd that just arrived...on the cd was also IE6.0 so I installed that also...during that install it said that two of the dlls of the target were newer than the source so I did not replace them....now I'm all jacked up....my computer doesn't get to the desktop even.....it hangs up on some IEBROWSE.DLL not being found....so I need to work on that. I'm going to try to restore back to original crappy ME settings, reinstall all my s/w and maybe even XP or something....I just wanted it to be better and now it's worse...what luck..hahaha....

all,
reloaded my o/s back to win ME....everything is cool. I may load XP up in a week or two and then just reload spybot, adware, spywareblaster, anitvirus and make my IE more secure. I followed some posts by Grinler and Tommyboy and they gave out some good advice to everyone as well....thanx everyone for helping me out. I appreciate it.
