Annoying Toolbar and Search Page

Searchweb2.com have taken over my default search page in internet explorer and have made an annoying toolbar that appears at the bottom of my screen everytime I open IE from the desktop. Can anyone help please?

I don't understand how a google search is going to address the problems in someone else's log. Each infected computer has completely different problems that need to be addressed on a case by case basis.

The HJT log reports on his searchweb2 infection, which is a common problem, the solution to which can be found on google. I've help to fix numerous machines with similar problems (popnav, searchbar, etc) straight from articles I've found on google.

That might take care of the browser hijacking (in most cases). But what about the rest of the log. This person's log is not that bad, but there could be several other infections besides the browser hijacking.

In this log:

The poster did not include the entire log. There is important information missing, such as operating system, are they up to date on service packs, is hijackthis installed in a seperate directory. etc.

The person might want to remove People on Page:

http://www.pchell.com/support/peopleonpage.shtml

Funwebproducts needs to be uninstalled from add/remove programs.

These need to go:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AutoUpdater] "c:\Program Files\AutoUpdate\AutoUpdate.exe"
O16 - DPF: {1D4DB7D2-6EC9-47A3-BD87-1E41684E07BB} - http://ak.imgfarm.com/images/nocache/funwebproducts/ei/PopularScreenSaversInitialSetup1.0.0.8.c

Don't get me wrong. I am not attacking you for helping, the anti-spyware community needs all the help it can get. However, the log needs to be checked over as a whole.

Tom

Ah, I've only used HTJ 3 or 4 times, so I'm not too familiar with it.

You might want to print these instructions for reference, as you will be off the internet while using HijackThis.

Logoff your internet connection. Run HijackThis, close all browsers and any other windows, click scan, place a checkmark next to the following items. Click "fix checked".

Do you have any idea what these programs are? These may well be part of the LOP infection.

These are resource hogs that are not necessary to be run at startup. It's OK to have HihackThis fix these too.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\OSA.EXE

Then....

Boot into Safe Mode. Reboot your computer, start tapping F8 when it first starts booting, select Safe Mode.

Make sure your computer is configured to show all files and folders.
Click Start.
Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden Files and Folders heading select Show Hidden Files and Folders.
Uncheck the Hide Protected Operating System Files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm.
Click OK.

Delete the following folder:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Meal creative bags 1\

Reboot normally.

You have Messenger Plus installed. It contain's the LOP infection (it's what you are infected with now) and it's best to uninstall the program. Trillian is a safer alternative:

Post a fresh hijackthis log.
