Cool Another Hijack and a nasty one at that

I have been hijacked by a nasty website. I have always been successful at removing viruses and trojans, but not this one. It keeps coming back.

It sends me to the first site below and after a few times it sends me to the porno site everytime:

mk:@MSITStore:C:\WINDOWS\start.chm::/spplain.html

mk:@MSITStore:C:\WINDOWS\start.chm::/start.html

I run Spybot, Adaware, Spywareblaster, and Trojan Remover. I use Zone Alarm and McAfee virus scan. My operating system is up-to-date. I just downloaded HijackThis and followed Tom's directions in his HijackThis Quick Start. My log follows and I would appreciate any help.

Thanks in advance.
Dan

Possible solution to mk:@MSITStore:C:\WINDOWS\start.chm::/start.html

I found a possible permanent solution to the MSITStore:C:\WINDOWS\start.chm::/start.html issue. It is on another forum (www.freedomlist.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=16135). The post is rather long (3 pages), look on page two for "Posted: Mon Apr 26, 2004 18:54 pm Post subject: My Final Solution".
Make sure you read the entire post, there is a correction later in the post.

I'm going to try it, it looks like it is working for others.

I'll let you know if it works for me.

Smile The fix worked

Just wanted to let everyone know that I followed the instructions at the link that I left in my last post and I have had no reoccurance of the hijack as yet.

I am convinced that it has worked.

Thanks! One of the experts has created a fix tool also. This has been a difficult one to say the least.

Tom, can you tell me where I can find the fix tool. A friend of mine has the same problem. The fix I applied to my computer worked, but it is a fairly involved process. If there is a tool to fix it, my friend would like to try it.

Hi Danvon,

It would be best if we could see a HijackThis log. These infections morph all the time and fixes are chnged to suit. If possible, ask your friend to post a log in new thread and someone will take a look at it.

Tom
