Another Hijacking
I got hit by yet another hijacker. I just previously got rid of "CW" using CWShredder. I am running and or using: Spybot, SpySweeper, as well as CW Shredder and Hijack This.
My latest one is from the good folks at: res://qmdol.dll/index.html#37049. My High Jack this log from just a little bit ago is: Logfile of HijackThis v1.98.0 Scan saved at 4:36:24 PM, on 7/3/2004 Platform: Windows XP SP1 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP1 (6.00.2800.1106) Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe c:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\navapsvc.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\windows\system\hpsysdrv.exe C:\HP\KBD\KBD.EXE C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccApp.exe C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\HP Share-to-Web\hpgs2wnd.exe C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\HP Share-to-Web\hpgs2wnf.exe C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe C:\Program Files\Webroot\Spy Sweeper\SpySweeper.exe C:\program files\microsoft office\Office10\msoffice.exe c:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccEvtMgr.exe C:\Program Files\AT&T\WnClient\Programs\WNCONN~1.EXE C:\PROGRA~1\AT&T\WNCLIENT\PROGRAMS\WNCSMS~1.EXE C:\WINDOWS\javadu.exe C:\WINDOWS\d3fh.exe C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\rnathchk.exe C:\unzipped\hijackthis\HijackThis.exe R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = res://C:\WINDOWS\system32\qmdol.dll/sp.html#37049 R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.excite.com R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = res://qmdol.dll/index.html#37049 R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = res://C:\WINDOWS\system32\qmdol.dll/sp.html#37049 R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = res://C:\WINDOWS\system32\qmdol.dll/sp.html#37049 R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.excite.com R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/cus...//www.yahoo.com R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Window Title = Microsoft Internet Explorer provided by AT&T WorldNet Service R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing N1 - Netscape 4: user_pref("browser.startup.homepage", "http://excite.com/"); (C:\Program Files\Netscape\Users\anne\prefs.js) O2 - BHO: (no name) - {25984661-3482-A9A8-6BD1-7E8B33646034} - C:\WINDOWS\crdv.dll O3 - Toolbar: &Radio - {8E718888-423F-11D2-876E-00A0C9082467} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\msdxm.ocx O3 - Toolbar: Norton AntiVirus - {42CDD1BF-3FFB-4238-8AD1-7859DF00B1D6} - c:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\NavShExt.dll O3 - Toolbar: Yahoo! oh btw...
I also ran Ad-Aware and cleaned out some garbage. But as I suspected after a reboot, etc... the Hijacked page is back - along with its "only the best" popups. I will wait until I can zap the Hijacker until I run it again

ok...this is bizzare...
I found on majorgeeks.com, HSRemove 2.32 (http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4286.html) to remove res://.dll/index.html#37049. I ran it and it removed 64 items.
Opening IE I changed my homepage setting from theirs to www.excite.com as instructed. When I exited, SpySweeper alerted me that my homepage was going to be changed to res://ngluk.dll/index.html#37049.... So I ran HSRemove again and it removed 19 items this time.... Back into IE...change the homepage setting to excite...exit... SpySweeper alerted that my homepage was now going to be changed to res://zodde.dll/index.html#37049.... so I ran HSR *again* and it removed 19 items again. I went back to IE... reset my homepage..exited... no SpySweeper alert.... went back into IE ... np repeated and np again.... Here is my latest "Highjack This" log...am I ok now??? I have not seen anything that automatically removes the malware you described, let alone this hsremove program. Clean the items below, and if spysweeper states that the infection is trying to reinstate itself, let it so I can advise as to what else I should have you remove.
I want you to fix some of those entries. Please do the following: Please make sure that you can view all hidden files. Instructions on how to do this can be found here: How to see hidden files in Windows Run Hijackthis again, click scan, and Put a checkmark next to each of these. Then click the Fix button R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://hsremove.com/done.htm R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/cus...//www.yahoo.com O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Popup Defence Updater] regsvr32 /s C:\WINDOWS\System32\pdfupd.dll O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SafeGuard Popup Updater (required)] regsvr32 /s C:\WINDOWS\System32\PDF437e.dll O16 - DPF: {1D4DB7D2-6EC9-47A3-BD87-1E41684E07BB} (Fun Web Products Installer Start) - http://63.236.66.10/em/images/nocac...etup1.0.0.5.cab Reboot your computer into Safe Mode and delete the following files: Then delete these C:\WINDOWS\System32\pdfupd.dll C:\WINDOWS\System32\PDF437e.dll Disable System Restore. I have not checked it out, but since I do not know the person who created it, and I do know the person who created about:buster, I like to use my manual fix in conjunction with about:buster. Just my preference.

If you are using .08 it does not hurt to user it as it will block firefox from using any ad cookies. If you are using the new .09 or later its not compatible.
