Norton scans programs for malicious code. Use that.

I dont know of any tool that scans a file fora specific type of malware. but to detect if a file is in fact malware or contains malware, you can submit the file at this website with simple ease.
Jotti's Website its a free website and efficient.

@Yegg
Norton is not worth the disc its burned upon. Purchasing a subscription to an antivirus is not the solution to all problems as you have repeatedly stated. It is a good idea to purchase a good virus scanner, but not the only thing you should do. My Best Buy on AntiViruses : NOD32. Its the cheapest and provides excellent detection. I recommend running MS Antispyware and AVG Free as well as a professional antivirus |

Well there's another way he can get Norton for free, and use programs whose first letter of their name is a "c". But I'm not going to say the word or suggest it because when I do, people lower my reputation.

To all thanks for advice.
So as I understand you cant really check a file for a hidden keylogger before you actually double click on it? Random |

You can do so. Norton has that capability. I've done it before. It specifically checks for malicious code and it can detect what kind of code it is, trojan, worm, etc. It has worked for me before. A completely "harmless" file was detected to have a trojan threat in it. Norton removed the threat and not the file. I believe MooSoft has a program that can also do this,

So far I have been really lucky as never had a virus on my machine. But for some reason keylogger scares me more than a virus.

I agree with oneMSBi, Jotti is a good site.
Here's another single-file scanner: http://www.kaspersky.com/scanforvirus Using their single file scanning tool, browse to each of the files in question and submit it for antivirus scanning. Also... If you are concerned you have a logger on your system, why not post a HijackThis log. Enable everything in MSCONFIG (if you have disabled anything). Go to Start > Run > msconfig > click Startup Tab > everything should have a checkmark to the left of it. Please note: this does not apply to Windows 2000 users. Please download HijackThis. Make sure you install HijackThis to a permanent folder such as C:\HJT as it creates backups of what we will fix. Run the program, click the button at the top "Do a system scan and save a logfile". Save the log to a convenient place such as C:\HJT Notepad will open, copy and paste the entire log into your post. Do not fix anything yet, most of what's in the log is needed! http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.html Tom

Random,
you can check a file for malware before you click on it. submit it to the sites that both tom and i have pointed out. They will usually check for various kinds of malware embedded in the file including keyloggers. |

Again thank you very much for all your advice. I will do what oneMSBi and Tom have suggested.
