foun great walkthrough to bypass the password:

Quote:
I went to Control Panel and ran Add or Remove Programs. Found Symantec Antivirus Client and I clicked on the Remove button. The progress bar ran for a while and a dialog box pop out asking for password to continue the uninstallation.
Uninstall Symantec Corporate Antivirus password
I asked my friend and he didn't know anything about it! I couldn't install any other type of antivirus IF i do not remove the Symantec Antivirus client first. Searched around and found the default password to uninstall Symantec Antivirus client and also a way to bypass the password.

The default password that should work for most of the Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition client uninstallation is "symantec". Easy isn't it? Well it isn't if you don't know.

This is what you should do if the default password didn't work.
1) Go to Start -> Run and type regedit

2) Navigate to:

3) Double click on the value name "UseVPUninstallPassword" and change the value from 1 to 0

4) Close the registry and retry the uninstall.

worked perfectly for me, hopefully will for everyone else too.

In the Symantec System Center console, right-click a server, a server group, or a client group, and then click All Tasks > Symantec AntiVirus > Client Administrator Only Options.

On the Security tab, uncheck Ask for password to allow uninstall of Symantec AntiVirus Client.

you can try symantec.com in there help section, they are pretty good with helping with norton products, or shop-symantec.com

The password won't show up if you go into the registry and change a value from 1 to 0.

"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\INTEL\LANDesk\VirusProtect6\CurrentVersion\Administrator Only\Security\UseVPUninstallPassword”

Edit: And...I see this answer has already been posted.

Thumbs up symantic password remove

Id nt know were this topic has gone

for removing the password protection of the SAV just go for the below entry of the registery

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Intel\LANDesk\VirusProtect6\CurrentVersion\AdministratorOnly\Security

- Look for a DWORD value called UseVPUninstallPassword. Once you find it, double click it.

- Change the value of UseVPUninstallPassword to 0 (zero) and click OK

..Done..cheers

- Click the "Start" button located on the bottom left of the task bar of your computer.

- Scroll to "Control Panel" and click on it. If you cannot locate the Control Panel for any reason, type "Control Panel" in the search window below the "All Programs" button.

- Once the Control Panel window opens up displaying various control menus or features, click on the "Uninstall a Program" link under Programs.

- Scroll down to "Symantec Antivirus" from the list of programs that open ups and click on it. Click on the popout which says "Uninstall/Change." Click on it and, depending on the version of Symantec Antivirus program you have installed on your computer, different operations such as Modify, Remove, or Repair are displayed.

- Click "Remove" and then "OK." Removing the Symantec Antivirus program will take a few minutes relative to the processing power of your computer.
