cant connect to internet
Hello all I belive I have been infected with something (or the other)
Thing is I cant connect to internet. I have ADSL connection and it establishes ok and I even see that there is some small trafic however when I try to reach any webpage I get cant access page message. This also affected my Norton antivirus and Im unable to run liveupdate. I also get constant messages from Norton saying that it cant scan my email due to proxy settings which is somewhat odd since 1) it never said that before and I havent changed anything lately 2) I dont have proxy and I dont recieve any e-mail. When looking at running processes I have noticed that there are at least 5 svchost processes (I can kill all of them except one - after I kill it comp reloads) There are also quite a lot of other processes which Im pretty sure shouldnt be there but as I am away from the comp in question I cant remember their names (will make a list today).Im running XP SP2. Any advise what this may be and how to counter? |

Hi Naug,
Quote:
svchost.exe, when it's an unaltered MS file is not related to malware. It is normal to see several of these processes running. It can be exploited though. Please download HijackThis. Make sure you install HijackThis to a permanent folder such as C:\HJT as it creates backups of what we will fix. Run the program, click the button at the top "Do a system scan and save a logfile". Save the log to a convenient place such as C:\HJT Notepad will open, copy and paste the entire log into your post. Do not fix anything yet, most of what's in the log is needed! http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.html Tom
