Please complete the entire fix all at once. Otherwise, you will be fixing this computer over an over again.

Regarding:

C:\PROGRA~\INTERN~3\inetkw.dll
The specified module could not be found.

It should show up in the next log and it will be fixed then. You are doing well...

Post a fresh HijackThis log when you can.

Tom

Welcome back Teacher4u!

Looks like you are gaining ground on this computer...

You might want to print these instructions for reference or copy and paste them into notepad and save them on your desktop, as you will be off the internet while using HijackThis.

If you have any questions before starting the fix, please don't hesitate to ask!

Boot into Safe Mode. Reboot your computer, start tapping F8 when it first starts booting, select Safe Mode.

Please go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove programs and remove:

ActualNames
WindUpdates
180solutions

Next...

Please move or unzip HijackThis to a permanent folder such as C:\HJT It is important that it is in it's own folder as it will make important backups of what we will fix.

Please go to Start > My Computer > double-click your C:\ drive > click: File > New > Folder > name it HJT and put HijackThis into that folder.

Next...

Run HijackThis, click scan, place a checkmark next to the following items. Close all browsers and any other windows or the fix may not work! Click "fix checked". It is OK if some of these items are no longer listed.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Windows AdTools] C:\Program Files\Windows AdTools\WinAdTools.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [salm] c:\temp\salm.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [snexgxar] C:\WINDOWS\snexgxar.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [inetmgr] C:\PROGRA~1\INTERN~3\inetmgr.exe
O16 - DPF: {15AD4789-CDB4-47E1-A9DA-992EE8E6BAD6} - http://public.windupdates.com/get_file.php?bt=ie&p=d5ce257857a083868c1f4672b0407c8b9379fe5496c0e7d74dd5b79e931ad6d6d9b0f3669e53e51b8fba848fa8088c3fc6 4cb0edfedca287d6c4c1b056f368:c05c8ac2b23f939ff11a0351cafa03db
O16 - DPF: {1D0D9077-3798-49BB-9058-393499174D5D} - file://c:\counter.cab

If you didn't add this to Internet Explorer's Trusted Zone yourself, fix this one too:

O15 - Trusted Zone: *.musicmatch.com

These are resource hogs that can be fixed also:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot

Next...

Make sure your computer is configured to show all files and folders.
Click Start.
Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden Files and Folders heading select Show Hidden Files and Folders.
Uncheck hide extensions for known file types.
Uncheck the Hide Protected Operating System Files option.
Click Yes to confirm.
Click OK.

Search for and delete the following files:

c:\temp\salm.exe
C:\WINDOWS\snexgxar.exe
c:\counter.cab

Search for and delete the following folders:

C:\Program Files\Windows AdTools < the entire Windows AdTools folder
C:\PROGRAM FILES\INTERNET KEYWORD < the entire INTERNET KEYWORD folder

Next....

Go to Start > Run > type "cleanmgr" (without the quotes). > Select the drive to clean up (usually C ) > Place a checkmark next to the following:

Temporary Internet Files
Recycle Bin
Temporary Files

Then click OK.

Empty your Recycle Bin.

Reboot normally.

Please post a fresh HijackThis log.

Tom

Question Completing the above step!

Tom,I got started on the step above but had some difficulties getting the pc into safe mode. Also I was unable to locate some of the items for removal.Could they be already gone? I'm planning on making another attempt tomorrow (sunday) and will post results. Meanwhile the following---

C:\PROGRA~\INTERN~3\inetkw.dll
The specified module could not be found.

is popping up so frequently it makes repairs difficult ,and is also driving lisa crazy. I sit out side her room and keep hearing the "wooooonk!" each time it pops up. Is there any way you can tell me how to get rid of that problem now? Thanks a million. Teacher4u.

Yep, we got to nip this in the bud.

You might try going to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove programs and looking for Internet Keyword and uninstall it.

Also, it will probably show up in your next log.
