CPU at 100%
Hello,
Sorry if I'm not posting in the correct folder. I use my laptop sporadically, but last time I used it it was just fine. 128mg Dell Inspiron 4100 Now that I need to travel with it tomorrow, it is s....l....o....w and impossible to use. I have run Spybot and McAfee Virus check. Nothing. I am in the process of cleaning up/compressing files, and it is taking hours, and that's probably not the problem anyway. I ran a Hijack this report. Please be gentle and specific with any suggestions--I'm not very geeky but I follow instructions well!! Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide: Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1 Scan saved at 9:58:14 AM, on 5/29/2005 Platform: Windows XP SP1 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP1 (6.00.2800.1106) Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe C:\Program Files\Netropa\Multimedia Keyboard\nhksrv.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\Ati2evxx.exe c:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\vso\mcvsrte.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe c:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\vso\mcshield.exe C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Works Shared\WkUFind.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\atiptaxx.exe C:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP\SynTPLpr.exe C:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP\SynTPEnh.exe C:\Program Files\DELL\AccessDirect\dadapp.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\JupitCo.exe C:\Program Files\Netropa\Multimedia Keyboard\MMKeybd.exe C:\Program Files\DELL\AccessDirect\DadTray.exe C:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\vso\mcvsshld.exe c:\progra~1\mcafee.com\vso\mcvsescn.exe C:\Program Files\Netropa\Multimedia Keyboard\TrayMon.exe C:\Program Files\Netropa\Onscreen Display\OSD.exe C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\HP Share-to-Web\hpgs2wnd.exe C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Works Shared\wkcalrem.exe C:\PROGRA~1\HEWLET~1\HPSHAR~1\hpgs2wnf.exe C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CLEANMGR.EXE c:\progra~1\mcafee.com\vso\mcvsftsn.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\wuauclt.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\taskmgr.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\wuauclt.exe C:\Documents and Settings\Judy\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\WHGXQVCH\hijackthis[1]\HijackThis.exe R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://www.dellnet.com/ R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://www.portalsearching.com/search.php R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://phoenix.about.com/ R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://www.portalsearching.com/ R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://www.portalsearching.com/search.php R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.portalsearching.com/search/ R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://www.portalsearching.com/search.php R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.portalsearching.com R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = http=192.168.0.1:87 R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyOverride = www.direcwaysupport.com;192.168.0.*;192.168.0.1;<local> O2 - BHO: AcroIEHlprObj Class - {06849E9F-C8D7-4D59-B87D-784B7D6BE0B3} - C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 6.0\Reader\ActiveX\AcroIEHelper.dll O2 - BHO: (no name) - {53707962-6F74-2D53-2644-206D7942484F} - C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy\SDHelper.dll O3 - Toolbar: McAfee VirusScan - {BA52B914-B692-46c4-B683-905236F6F655} - c:\progra~1\mcafee.com\vso\mcvsshl.dll O3 - Toolbar: &Radio - {8E718888-423F-11D2-876E-00A0C9082467} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\msdxm.ocx O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Microsoft Works Update Detection] C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Works Shared\WkUFind.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ATIModeChange] Ati2mdxx.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AtiPTA] atiptaxx.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SynTPLpr] C:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP\SynTPLpr.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SynTPEnh] C:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP\SynTPEnh.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [DadApp] C:\Program Files\DELL\AccessDirect\dadapp.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [USB SECURITY DEVICE CoInstaller] JupitCo.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MULTIMEDIA KEYBOARD] C:\Program Files\Netropa\Multimedia Keyboard\MMKeybd.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [VSOCheckTask] "c:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\vso\mcmnhdlr.exe" /checktask O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [VirusScan Online] "c:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\vso\mcvsshld.exe" O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MCAgentExe] c:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\agent\mcagent.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MCUpdateExe] C:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\agent\McUpdate.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Share-to-Web Namespace Daemon] C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\HP Share-to-Web\hpgs2wnd.exe O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MSMSGS] "C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe" /background O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Works Calendar Reminders.lnk = ? hello jhedding,
i went through your log as best i can, and found only a few entries that needed fixing. It is possible that i have missed some entries. Please check this thread for inputs from other users over the next few days. I am not sure if this is what is making your system slow but you can fix the following with hijackthis and see if you achieve any performance improvements. please run hijackthis and place a tick mark next to the following entries IF www.portalsearching.com is not your chosen homepage. Quote:
please fix the following items as well Quote:
after fixing these entries with hijackthis, please re-scan and post a fresh log. hope this helps ![]()

Hi jhedding,
I see CLEANMGR.EXE (Disk Cleanup) was running at the time you posted your log. Some things may have changed since the cleanup. Please post a fresh HijackThis log. Also... Please move or unzip HijackThis to a permanent folder such as C:\HJT or C:\Program Files. It is important that it is in it's own folder as it will make important backups of what we will fix. Please go to Start > My Computer > double-click your C:\ drive > click: File > New > Folder > name it HJT and put HijackThis into that folder. Tom
