cpu usage 100%

My cpu usage is almost always at 100%. I tried spybot, adaware, norton antivirus, but nothing. Things have been at a crawl. This problem started showing up after adding Microsoft messenger. I removed messenger after about a week. Any help is greatly appreciated. Below is my Hijack this log.

You might want to print these instructions for reference or copy and paste them into notepad and save them on your desktop, as you will be off the internet while using HijackThis.

You have Viewpoint Media Player installed. It is considered Spyware and it is suggested that you remove it. Here's more information on it:

Go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove programs and remove Viewpoint Media Player

Next...

Please move or unzip HijackThis to a permanent folder such as C:\HJT It is important that it is in it's own folder as it will make important backups of what we will fix.

Please go to Start > My Computer > double-click your C:\ drive > click: File > New > Folder > name it HJT and put HijackThis into that folder.

Logoff your internet connection. Please press Ctrl-Alt-Delete and open Task Manager. End the following process by selecting it and pressing the End Process button and clicking Yes to the confirmation message:

ViewMgr.exe

Run HijackThis, click scan, place a checkmark next to the following items. Close all browsers and any other windows or the fix may not work! Click "fix checked". It is OK if some of these items are no longer listed.

Next...

Boot into Safe Mode. Reboot your computer, start tapping F8 when it first starts booting, select Safe Mode.

Make sure your computer is configured to show all files and folders.
Click Start.
Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden Files and Folders heading select Show Hidden Files and Folders.
Uncheck hide extensions for known file types.
Uncheck the Hide Protected Operating System Files option.
Click Yes to confirm.
Click OK.

Search for and delete the following folders:

C:\Program Files\Viewpoint < the entire Viewpoint folder

Next....

Go to Start > Run > type "cleanmgr" (without the quotes). > Select the drive to clean up (usually C ) > Place a checkmark next to the following:

Temporary Internet Files
Recycle Bin
Temporary Files

Then click OK.

Reboot normally.

Please post a fresh HijackThis log.

Can you tell me what process is using all those CPU cycles?

Right-click your taskbar > Task Manager > Processes > click the CPU heading twice

The top CPU users (programs) will then be visable.

The main hogs were taskmgr.exe and explorer.exe. Well, that's after I uninstalled Norton. Anyway, both were causing my cpu usage to fluctuate between 30% and 100%. Simply moving the mouse with IE open would cause a change from 30 to 40% additional usage. Anyway, I have an Inspiron 1150 notebook, and I didn't realize before installing Microsoft's service pack 2, I was supposed to go to the Dell website and install the Dell Inspiron 1150 update for Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2. It seems installing after you've installed service pack 2 works fine. Here's the address at Dell if anyone is interested:

Check for updates for Windows and Internet Explorer every week or so. Download each critical update one by one, rebooting when necessary.. Repeat this until you get the message "no critical updates available"
