Seems like queer days have arried for all Win XP Pro users.
![]() It seems like a corrupted explorer.exe/other important files of the OS. Try using Recovery Console if you can. Boot using the Installation CD and select recovery console..that would help you surely to Repiar XP. ![]() |

Hi RF,
Explorer.exe is a target for many virus. Here's a whole list of examples: http://www.google.com/search?num=30...rus&btnG=Search A repair installation might have gotten you back up and running and then you could have investigated for any remaining problems. Tom

Your question couldn't have come at a better time, RadioactiveFrog(Cute name
) I am myself trying to recover my own OS using the Recovery Console(which I could access, at last!!) now. For now, I have some links you can refer to -- Description of the Windows XP Recovery Console How to perform a Windows XP repair ? (I won't try this one yet, because they are telling that a repair install works...) 'Help' command in Recovery console can also help you, btw. If you get any results do tell! And oh yes, Good Luck! ![]() --Knight Samar ![]() Edit : Here is another guide -- Windows XP Crashed ? Here's Help! |

Thanks for that, thankfully the system in question was our ICS server (hence the fact we needed it back up and running!!) and as it was the server it only had the os on it and the adsl modem drivers and software so it didn't take too long!! thankfully it wasn't my main machine that would have been real problems!!!! Cheers RF |

Reload IE 6 SP1 to fix this problem
Quote:
Hi Frog I worked on a Win 2000 workstation with the same kind of error, after logging on to the network, you see the Taskbar briefly launch at the bottom of the screen and then disappear. Checking the Task Manager finds that explorer.exe is not running, and when you try to launch explorer.exe from the New Task (Run) menu of Task Manager again the Task Bar momentarily pops up and then disappears,a s does the process listing in the Task Manager Listing. Internet Explorer similarly fails to run, however, other processes will launch from the Task Manager. This is important and the resolution to this problem is reloading Internet Explorer 6 SP1 from the web. How to do that if both IE and Explorer will not load? In my case I have a USB external drive that I had the alternative Firefox browser on. I loaded Firefox, input my proxy settings, surfed out to Microsoft's Windows Internet Explorer page - downloaded IE 6 SP 1 to the hard drive and then ran it to re-install. Upon reboot, the installation program continued and finished. This launched Explorer as well as IE 6 and all was well from there. If you don't have a USB external or jump drive download IE 6 SP1 and burn to CD and then using the Task Manager run the install from the CD. Good Luck and I hope this resolves the problem for you.
