FireFox = no Hijacking?

I read *somewhere* that using FireFox instead of IE will prevent getting HiJacked.... Can anyone confirm this? What else does it prevent? btw I am also running Ad-Aware, SpySweeper, Spy-bot, & Nortons.

I DL'd it last night n installed it - actually I am currently using it It only loaded slow the first time I used it... now seems to be at the same speed as IE....

Hi DeTovenaar,

Firefox doesn't use ActiveX like IE does. Therefore you are much less at risk for those "drive by downloads" that infect our systems. There are usually much less browser hijacking problems using Firefox. The tabbed browsing feature is great isn't it?

Cool

I'd recommend everyone to use Internet Explorer only to view sites that require IE and don't show up correctly otherwise. However, nowadays you'll hardly encounter that kind of sites anymore because alternative browser finally are state-of-the-art concerning html, javascript and DOM. Browsing with alternative browsers is safer and much more comfortable.

Actually, if you run IE6 you're fine as long as you have the right software. I personally use Spyware Blaster, Spybot Search & Destroy, and Ad-Aware 6. If you update all the definitions and have SB and SS&D block all the bad stuff, you have a very small risk of getting hijacked.

I know it sounds like quite a bit to go through, but I've been doing it this way for a long while and I seem to be almost completely immune to spyware and Hijackings.

malachi, doesnt that show how bad IE actually is?

you have to dowload all them extras just to keep your computer safe???

im not one of these people who hate microsoft and call them because lets face it theyve done a hell of a lot in making personal computers do what they do

but i just think internet explorer is pathetic, ok mozilla requires more resources than IE but it your running all them other programs aswell then there probably isnt that much difference between them in resources

its just firefox has tabbed browsing which i love

Just another quick word on FireFox now after a few days of using it. Still not sure if its all of Grinler's help to clean my puter up or if it's FireFox... but I've been running clean! FireFox does appear to run much faster, even on my dialup, than IE6 - pages load faster, graphics faster,etc. And since I am prone to having 4+ web windows open at once, the tabbing is AWESOME - no taking up taskbar space!

my $ 0.02 worth
