Hijack log want to remove some startup clutter
Hey Tom,
Want to remove what I do not need. I think the colored entries may be bad. May be more that I do not need. If so let me know. Hate the time it now takes my computer to start up. Can I just check them and run "fix checked" in the hijack this tool. I thought I removed these things and they keep returning. Thanks Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1 Scan saved at 2:50:03 PM, on 6/2/2005 Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180) Running processes: C:\WINNT\System32\smss.exe C:\WINNT\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINNT\system32\services.exe C:\WINNT\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINNT\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINNT\System32\svchost.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccSetMgr.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\SNDSrvc.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\SPBBC\SPBBCSvc.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccEvtMgr.exe C:\WINNT\system32\spoolsv.exe C:\WINNT\Explorer.EXE C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\GEARSEC.EXE C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\navapsvc.exe C:\WINNT\System32\NMSSvc.exe C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\IWP\NPFMntor.exe C:\WINNT\System32\nvsvc32.exe C:\WINNT\System32\svchost.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\CCPD-LC\symlcsvc.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Works Shared\WkUFind.exe C:\WINNT\system32\SK9910DM.EXE C:\WINNT\GWMDMMSG.exe C:\WINNT\system32\CTHELPER.EXE C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccApp.exe C:\Program Files\PhoneTools\CapFax.EXE C:\WINNT\system32\RUNDLL32.EXE C:\Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync\WCESCOMM.EXE C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe C:\Program Files\Microsoft Broadband Networking\MSBNTray.exe C:\WINNT\System32\svchost.exe C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Messenger\ymsgr_tray.exe C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe C:\unzipped\hijackthis[1]\HijackThis.exe R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.yahoo.com/ R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://www.gateway.net R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.gateway.net R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = O2 - BHO: AcroIEHlprObj Class - {06849E9F-C8D7-4D59-B87D-784B7D6BE0B3} - C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 6.0\Reader\ActiveX\AcroIEHelper.dll O2 - BHO: (no name) - {243B17DE-77C7-46BF-B94B-0B5F309A0E64} - C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money\System\mnyside.dll O2 - BHO: PCTools Site Guard - {5C8B2A36-3DB1-42A4-A3CB-D426709BBFEB} - C:\PROGRA~1\SPYWAR~1\tools\iesdsg.dll (file missing) O2 - BHO: NAV Helper - {BDF3E430-B101-42AD-A544-FADC6B084872} - C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\NavShExt.dll O2 - BHO: (no name) - {FDD3B846-8D59-4ffb-8758-209B6AD74ACC} - (no file) O3 - Toolbar: Norton AntiVirus - {42CDD1BF-3FFB-4238-8AD1-7859DF00B1D6} - C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\NavShExt.dll O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [UpdReg] C:\WINNT\UpdReg.EXE O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Symantec NetDriver Monitor] C:\PROGRA~1\SYMNET~1\SNDMon.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [nwiz] nwiz.exe /install O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NvCplDaemon] RUNDLL32.EXE C:\WINNT\System32\NvCpl.dll,NvStartup O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Microsoft Works Update Detection] C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Works Shared\WkUFind.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Keyboard Preload Check] C:\OEMDRVRS\KEYB\Preload.exe /DEVID: /CLASS:Keyboard /RunValue:"Keyboard Preload Check" O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Jet Detection] C:\Program Files\Creative\SBAudigy\PROGRAM\ADGJDet.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Hot Key Kbd 9910 Daemon] SK9910DM.EXE O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [GWMDMpi] C:\WINNT\GWMDMpi.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [GWMDMMSG] GWMDMMSG.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [EPSON Stylus Photo RX500] C:\WINNT\System32\spool\DRIVERS\W32X86\3\E_S4I2K1.EXE /P24 "EPSON Stylus Photo RX500" /O6 "USB001" /M "Stylus Photo RX500" O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [CTHelper] CTHELPER.EXE O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ccApp] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccApp.exe" O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [CapFax] C:\Program Files\PhoneTools\CapFax.EXE O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [morphstb] C:\WINNT\morphstb.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [hkvlaa] c:\winnt\system32\hkvlaa.exe O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [SpyKiller] C:\Program Files\Anonymizer\sk\SpyWareKiller.exe /BOOT O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [NvMediaCenter] RUNDLL32.EXE C:\WINNT\System32\NVMCTRAY.DLL,NvTaskbarInit O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [H/PC Connection Agent] "C:\Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync\WCESCOMM.EXE" O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [BestPopUpKiller] C:\Program Files\BestPopUpKiller\BestPopupKiller.exe /startup O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MSMSGS] "C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe" /background O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Yahoo! i can't be stuffed looking at all that
http://www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.php open up msconfig (start>run>msconfig). Select the startup menu.Type in a search on sysinfo.....work with the startup names. It'll come up with possible matches...generally first one relates. Then use look at the table (Status column) and use this key: * "Y" - Normally leave to run at start-up * "N" - Not required - typically infrequently used tasks that can be started manually if necessary * "U" - User's choice - depends whether a user deems it necessary * "X" - Definitely not required - typically viruses, spyware, adware and "resource hogs" * "?" - Unknown Once done editing, select apply and click ok. Reboot, and your done. |

Hi bigbulldaddy,
You might want to print these instructions for reference or copy and paste them into notepad and save them on your desktop, as you will be off the internet while using HijackThis. If you have any questions before starting the fix, please don't hesitate to ask! Please move or unzip HijackThis to a permanent folder such as C:\HJT or C:\Program Files. It is important that it is in it's own folder as it will make important backups of what we will fix. Please go to Start > My Computer > double-click your C:\ drive > click: File > New > Folder > name it HJT and put HijackThis into that folder. Next... Please go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove programs and remove: BestPopUpKiller < it is considered bogus software. Google toolbar is much safer and free! toolbar.google.com Next... It appears your PCTools Spyware Doctor has a problem. If you still use this program consider reinstalling. Otherwise please fix the item below marked in RED Logoff your internet/network connection. Run HijackThis, click scan, place a checkmark next to the following items. Close all browsers and any other windows or the fix may not work! Click "fix checked". It is OK if some of these items are no longer listed. R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = O2 - BHO: (no name) - {FDD3B846-8D59-4ffb-8758-209B6AD74ACC} - (no file) O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [morphstb] C:\WINNT\morphstb.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [hkvlaa] c:\winnt\system32\hkvlaa.exe RED O2 - BHO: PCTools Site Guard - {5C8B2A36-3DB1-42A4-A3CB-D426709BBFEB} - C:\PROGRA~1\SPYWAR~1\tools\iesdsg.dll (file missing) These are resource hogs that can be fixed also: O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime This is a registration reminder that several companies use. It's considered a resource hog. O4 - Startup: PowerReg SchedulerV2.exe If you removed BestPopUpKiller, please fix this line too. O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [BestPopUpKiller] C:\Program Files\BestPopUpKiller\BestPopupKiller.exe /startup Next... Boot into Safe Mode. Restart your computer, start tapping F8 when your computer first starts booting, there will be a menu displayed > select Safe Mode. Make sure your computer is configured to show all files and folders. Click Start. Open My Computer. Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options. Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden Files and Folders heading select Show Hidden Files and Folders. Uncheck hide extensions for known file types. Uncheck the Hide Protected Operating System Files option. Click Yes to confirm. Click OK. Search for and delete the following files: C:\WINNT\morphstb.exe c:\winnt\system32\hkvlaa.exe Reboot normally. Next.... Please download CCleaner: http://www.ccleaner.com Install the program and run it. On the Windows tab, click Run cleaner. On the Applications tab, click Run Cleaner. Please post a fresh HijackThis log. Tom
