Hi Damos,

There's quite a few things going on with your computer. It will take several steps to clean it up.

First off, you have a Look2Me infection.

Download VX2Finder from this link:
http://www.downloads.subratam.org/VX2Finder.exe

Run Vx2Finder click on the *click to find VX2.BetterInternet* button. Then click *make log*.

Copy and paste the contents of the log into your next reply here.

Tom

Sign off and stay off the internet until the entire procedure is complete.

Open VX2Finder and click on the *click to find VX2.BetterInternet* button.

Then select the *Delete these files* button.
You will be left with notice about one to be deleted on reboot.
It will ask to reboot on deletion of the last file (Reboot)

-----------------
Once back in Windows

Open VX2Finder again and click on these buttons in the right pane:

user agent, Guardian.reg, restore policy

Exit and reboot.

Run Vx2Finder once more and click on the *click to find VX2.BetterInternet* button. Then click *make log*.
Post it here with a fresh HijackThis log please.

No Files to delete

When I hit the *click to find betterinternetvx2* button it gives me what I posted previously and does not allow me to select or delete any files.....and I do not see any listed either. Should I continue with the next steps without deleting anything? Thanks again for your time.

Have you run any antispyware programs lately? It may have removed the infection, leaving the ActiveX entry behind.

Here's a way to check:

Please open IE, paste the following into the address line and click go:

javascript:navigator.userAgent

You should get a one line result, copy and paste that result here.

Run HijackThis again and place a check beside each of the following items. Once done click the fix checked button. Make sure all other windows are closed.

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {23B8B046-510F-4F68-A71C-4E23DA412F5B} - C:\WINDOWS.000\ptrqq.dll

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [RunDLL36] C:\WINDOWS.000\System32\kchui.exe

Download about:Buster from either of the following locations.

http://www.atribune.org/downloads/AboutBuster.zip
or
http://tools.zerosrealm.com/AboutBuster.zip

Make sure you have printed this page and close ALL Internet Explorer windows. This is a very important step!!

Run AboutBuster.exe, click ok, then start, then OK. This will scan your computer for the files responsible for hijacking your home and/or search settings/page.

Reboot and post a new HijackThis log along with the report from about:Buster.

First, let's do an onlne virus scan from at least one of these sites:

Trend Micro Housecall
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

Panda Active Scan
www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/activescan

Bitdefender
http://www.bitdefender.com/scan/licence.php

Then let's do some more cleaning up:

Download Adaware from: http://www.lavasoft.de/support/download/

Run Adaware, click the "Check for Updates now" link. Install the latest reference file

Configure Adaware for a "Full Scan".

http://www.lavahelp.com/howto/fullscan/

Then...

Download, install and UPDATE Spybot Search and Destroy 1.3. Scan and fix all items checked in RED.

Reboot

Please update HijackThis, you are using an outdated version:

Open HijackThis, click Config > Misc Tools > Check for Update online.

Or download a copy of version 1.98 at:

http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.html

Post a fresh log with this new version.

Tom
