Hijackthis log to eradicate "heretofind"

Hello.

I read through several archived threads about the Heretofind.com problem/virus before registering with devshed, but I've not seen anything that would confirm others' difficulties are precisely the same as mine (which I suspect is because OSs and hardware/software configs are different).

In any case, I would be grateful for an analysis of the following Hijackthis log, specifically as it relates to the permanent eradication of the heretofind.com virus.

Thank you in advance.

Please download this to fix the start.chm hijack.

http://tools.zerosrealm.com/startchmfix.exe

Download it. Run it and extract the folder to the desktop preferably.

Open the folder after extracted.

Double click the fix.bat

Please make sure all Internet Explorers are closed.

Only run it once or you will lose the backups although they shouldn't be needed.

Reboot your computer.

I believe Windows Updates has a fix for this infection if you download all Critical updates:

Please update Windows and Internet Explorer. Download each critical update one by one, rebooting when necessary.. Repeat this until you get the message "no critical updates available". http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/

Then...

Please update HijackThis, you are using an outdated version:

Open HijackThis, click Config > Misc Tools > Check for Update online

Or download a copy of version 1.98.2 at: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.html

Post a fresh log with this new version.

Tom

Thanks, Tom.

I will be doing this through the day and will report back on the results, as well as posting a new Hijackthis log.

Tom,

I went through the steps you outlined: the bug seems to have departed.

Thank you for your help, which was presented in a clear, concise fashion.

Below my sig is the latest HijackThis log.

Good job! Your log is clean....

These are tools that will help keep you from getting infected again:

SpywareBlaster will block bad ActiveX and malevolent cookies. http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

SpywareGuard is a real-time spyware scanner.
http://www.wilderssecurity.net/spywareguard.html

IE-SPYAD puts over 4000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.
http://www.staff.uiuc.edu/~ehowes/resource.htm#IESPYAD

All are very small free programs. Occasionally check for updates.

Check for updates for Windows and Internet Explorer every week or so. Download each critical update one by one, rebooting when necessary.. Repeat this until you get the message "no critical updates available" http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/

Please take a minute to read: So how did I get infected in the first place?

Tom,

I can't thank you enough. The information you provide is invaluable, so my just saying "thanks" seems pretty paltry.
