Hijackthis log: which parasite to kill?
Hmmmm, been busy with this most of the day. I guess everybody is suffering from the latest rash of lop attacks. Most of the advice on the net doesnt seem to match filenames when searching folders and running RegEdit.
Norton Firewall Norton AntiVirus Ad-Aware Spybot (comes up with warnings every 10 seconds with resident, Deny change, remember this,..... bingo new http//) While online I get a momentary glimpse of the black scripting window then BLAM the whole desktop is full of cheesy aliases. Something nasty is living in my pc (windows xp). I use firefox but have to keep explorer for certain websites. One nasty toolbar refuses to be removed. Which one should I kill? Thanx in advance. Hi Tom Myboy
Seems to have worked pretty well! (edit: oh man my desktop is full of cheesy aliases again) Only, starting in safe mode and view invisable folders and files, search for ALCXMNTR.EXE resuls in these files found, (only when searching sub folders) Alcxmntr C:\Documents and Settings\Eigenaar\LocalSettings\Temp\pft60.tmp\Driver\WDM Alcxmntr C:\WINDOWS ALCXMNTR C:\WINDOWS\LastGood Alcxmntr C:\WINDOWS\Temp Alcxmntr C:\hp\drivers\audio\Realtek ALCXMNTR C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRVSTORE\Alcxwdm_cfb7d3fc0ab7f7a3133a6c25509eaf3479108975 ALCXMNTR C:\WINDOWS\system32\ReinstallBackups\0012\DriverFiles The one in blue is really in blue in the search results window. When started in safe mode the computer hanges before the last results are shown. Which one should I deleate? Here is the log after fixing what you suggested. Thanx man. They all can go.
I believe the path of the file marked in blue is compressed, so you probably won't be able to delete that one. Here's a description of ALCXMNTR.EXE: Realtek AC97 Audio - Event Monitor. "Spyware" file used surreptitiously monitor one's actions. It is not a sinister one, like remote control programs, but it is being used by Realtek to gather data about customers Can you explain in detail about the "cheesy aliases" and post a fresh HijackThis log? The cheesy aliases are internet search icons placed on my desktop after a lop attack. If I run adaware I see that there are at least 147 items that need removing these attacks are sporadic and are followed by a quick opening of the scripting command dialogue.

Please move or unzip HijackThis to a permanent folder such as C:\HJT It is important that it is in it's own folder as it will make important backups of what we will fix.
Please open My Computer > double-click your C:\ drive > File > New > Folder > name it HJT and put HijackThis into that folder. There is an uninstall tool for LOP but it's best we try to remove it manually first. You might want to print these instructions for reference or copy and paste them into a text file and save them on your desktop, as you will be off the internet while using HijackThis. Then.... Boot into Safe Mode. Reboot your computer, start tapping F8 when it first starts booting, select Safe Mode. Logoff your internet connection. Run HijackThis, click scan, place a checkmark next to the following items. Close all browsers and any other windows or the fix may not work! Click "fix checked". It is OK if some of these items are no longer listed. Make sure your computer is configured to show all files and folders. Click Start. Open My Computer. Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options. Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden Files and Folders heading select Show Hidden Files and Folders. Uncheck the Hide Protected Operating System Files (recommended) option. Click Yes to confirm. Click OK. Delete the following folders: C:\PROGRA~1\CREATI~2\ C:\PROGRA~1\SECTSU~1\ C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\amensecondsenddumb\ Then....
