Hi Tagginbac,
I really don't see much malware in your log... You might want to print these instructions for reference or copy and paste them into notepad and save them on your desktop, as you will be off the internet while using HijackThis. If you have any questions before starting the fix, please don't hesitate to ask! Logoff your internet connection. Run HijackThis, click scan, place a checkmark next to the following items. Close all browsers and any other windows or the fix may not work! Click "fix checked". It is OK if some of these items are no longer listed. R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ZTgServerSwitch] c:\program files\support.com\client\lserver\server.vbs This resource hog can be safely fixed: O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = E:\program\Office\Office\OSA9.EXE You have PowerReg Scheduler in your log. This is a registration reminder that is used by a number of different companies. It is not needed and some people think that it reports back to the company about your computer, so I suggest fixing it... O4 - Startup: PowerReg Scheduler.exe Next Boot into Safe Mode. Reboot your computer, start tapping F8 when it first starts booting, select Safe Mode. Make sure your computer is configured to show all files and folders. Click Start. Open My Computer. Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options. Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden Files and Folders heading select Show Hidden Files and Folders. Uncheck hide extensions for known file types. Uncheck the Hide Protected Operating System Files option. Click Yes to confirm. Click OK. Search for and delete the following files: PowerReg Scheduler.exe c:\program files\support.com\client\lserver\server.vbs Next.... Go to Start > Run > type "cleanmgr" (without the quotes). > Select the drive to clean up (usually C ) > Place a checkmark next to the following: Temporary Internet Files Recycle Bin Temporary Files Then click OK. Empty your Recycle Bin. Reboot normally and post a fresh HijackThis log. Tom

Hi Robin,
Your log is clean. There is more we can do to check this out though. You seem to have Norton installed in two places: E:\Program Files\Norton Ssytem works\Norton Utilities\NPROTECT.EXE (I don't like the Norton Ssytem works part). and C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccSetMgr.exe Are they two seperate versions? If so, the older one needs to be ununstalled. Exactly what errors do you get when you open Internet Explorer? Are you an AOL user? That might shed some light on the problem. Tom |

Hi Tom, I had NAV Systemworks 2003 and upgraded to Internet security 2004. Not real happy with it because I still get nailed with viruses and hijacked web pages. How can I tell which one to un install? When i open IE i had it set to default to google. it comes up with " cannot find server" " the page cannot be displayed". If I try to go to like Cisco.com for example i get the same thing. Right now I am trying out Mozilla and Netscape browsers and they seem to be working fine. I did lose Mozilla for a while but it has come back after I ran the programs listed in your signature file. I don't use AOL. I used MSN for about 5 years but I am trying Netscape dial up because MSN won't support pop3 email accounts. Thanks Robin |

You can go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > select Norton System Works 2003 > remove only Norton Antivirus 2003
This will leave the rest of SystemWorks intact. Like the Roxio GoBack feature, which is great in my opinion. You are using the Netscape Internet Service right? The last line in your log has an IP address that resolves to AOL. Since AOL bought Netscape I think this is correct. Tom |
