IE6 severe security hole

Today after a wrong click in google I landed on a site that belongs to the Digital Hell (fake hack/crack/porn links, and a dozen of popups every second). A minute after this, the firewall betrayed a nice little being on c: trying to communicate. It turned out I got at least 10 different trojans. This was strange because I disabled ActiveX download and did not run anything from unreliable sources, especially not at that time. I traced their origin, and found they came in when a page was simply loaded in an iframe. The URL of that DANGEROUS page is http://www.vxiframe.biz/adverts/098/1.php (DO NOT OPEN!).
Yes. Viewing that page causes instant infection.
I decided to completely reinstall everything, but it is ponintless until I find a way to prevent this happening again. I serached Microsoft's site for fixes, but did not find anything related.
Does anyone have idea how could I prevent happening this again? (yes, I have AV software, but hygeinie would be better than medicine)

If you have Av software, it is important you keep it update with the latest definitions, patches etc..

A good firewall and the latest updates from microsoft is a must for prevention. I reccomend ZoneAlarm as a freely available effective firewall.
you can get it here

Also try changing your browser. sites like the one you mentioned exploit vulnerabilities in IE to infect your PC. A more secure browser with lots of nifty tools built in is Firefox and its free.
check out www.getfirefox.com for firefox.

I would suggest that if you stick to IE you get the following software and scan with them regularily.
Adaware:http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/
Spybot Search and Destroy:http://www.safer-networking.org/

This is also a good software to install and use. Quite pro-active.
Spygaurd:http://www.wilderssecurity.net/spywareguard.html

If you want to learn more about how you get infected, and then keep your self safe here are sites i have seen well reccomended.

The important thing is to be prudent in surfing and keep your updates to all protection software as new as possible.
cheers
