Hello,
Within the past few days, I've noticed that "IEXPLORE.EXE" has been popping up in the background while I'm working on other stuff. Even with IE closed, I can see the program running when I view Task Manager. I've run Ad-Aware three or four times on custom scan and it hasn't detected anything malicious. I've also scanned for viruses using Housecall. I'm pretty stumped. Here's my HT log: Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1 Scan saved at 5:00:58 PM, on 5/27/2005 Platform: Windows XP (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 (6.00.2600.0000) Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE C:\WINDOWS\System32\hkcmd.exe C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_02\bin\jusched.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\pctspk.exe C:\Program Files\mIRC\mirc.exe C:\Program Files\Trillian\trillian.exe c:\program files\winamp\winamp.exe C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe C:\EFnet\mIRC\mirc.exe C:\hijackthis\HijackThis.exe R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = 199.77.128.194:3128 O2 - BHO: AcroIEHlprObj Class - {06849E9F-C8D7-4D59-B87D-784B7D6BE0B3} - C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\ActiveX\AcroIEHelper.dll O2 - BHO: DriveLetterAccess - {5CA3D70E-1895-11CF-8E15-001234567890} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\dla\tfswshx.dll O3 - Toolbar: &Radio - {8E718888-423F-11D2-876E-00A0C9082467} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\msdxm.ocx O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [IgfxTray] C:\WINDOWS\System32\igfxtray.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [HotKeysCmds] C:\WINDOWS\System32\hkcmd.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [UpdateManager] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Sonic\Update Manager\sgtray.exe" /r O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_02\bin\jusched.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PCTVOICE] pctspk.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [wmplayer] C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime O4 - Global Startup: Adobe Reader Speed Launch.lnk = C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Reader\reader_sl.exe O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\OSA.EXE O8 - Extra context menu item: E&xport to Microsoft Excel - res://C:\PROGRA~1\MICROS~2\Office10\EXCEL.EXE/3000 O9 - Extra button: AIM - {AC9E2541-2814-11d5-BC6D-00B0D0A1DE45} - C:\Program Files\AIM\aim.exe O9 - Extra button: ICQ Lite - {B863453A-26C3-4e1f-A54D-A2CD196348E9} - C:\Program Files\ICQLite\ICQLite.exe O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: ICQ Lite - {B863453A-26C3-4e1f-A54D-A2CD196348E9} - C:\Program Files\ICQLite\ICQLite.exe O9 - Extra button: Messenger - {FB5F1910-F110-11d2-BB9E-00C04F795683} - C:\Program Files\Messenger\MSMSGS.EXE O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Windows Messenger - {FB5F1910-F110-11d2-BB9E-00C04F795683} - C:\Program Files\Messenger\MSMSGS.EXE O16 - DPF: {04E214E5-63AF-4236-83C6-A7ADCBF9BD02} (HouseCall Control) - http://housecall60.trendmicro.com/housecall/xscan60.cab O16 - DPF: {56336BCB-3D8A-11D6-A00B-0050DA18DE71} (RdxIE Class) - http://software-dl.real.com/257a64aa777a90cf3119/netzip/RdxIE601.cab O16 - DPF: {6414512B-B978-451D-A0D8-FCFDF33E833C} (WUWebControl Class) - http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/v5consumer/V5Controls/en/x86/client/wuweb_site.cab?1111257479166 O16 - DPF: {74D05D43-3236-11D4-BDCD-00C04F9A3B61} (HouseCall Control) - http://a840.g.akamai.net/7/840/537/2004061001/housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/xscan53.cab O16 - DPF: {B38870E4-7ECB-40DA-8C6A-595F0A5519FF} (MsnMessengerSetupDownloadControl Class) - http://messenger.msn.com/download/MsnMessengerSetupDownloader.cab O20 - Winlogon Notify: igfxcui - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\igfxsrvc.dll O23 - Service: iPod Service (iPodService) - Apple Computer, Inc. - C:\Program Files\iPod\bin\iPodService.exe Any ideas as to what it could be? |

You'll probably get a better response to your HijackThis log in the Antivirus Protection forum, so I've moved your thread there.

hello genomanx
It seems you have an outdated version of Internet Explorer (not updated). i think you have some kind of malware on your system. Please do not use your windows media player until we have managed to clean out the infection The following entry is very suspicious becaude Windows media player is never set to run at startup. O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [wmplayer] C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe For now i want you to download spybot from http://www.safer-networking.org/ and run it. Then post a fresh hijackthis log here. please download the ZoneAlarm Firewall from here http://www.zonelabs.com/store/conte...reeDownload.jsp and install it to your pc. activate the firewall and do not allow any suspicous programs through the firewall. especially windwos media player. This will temporaily prevent your system from getting any worse until one of the fourm experts can post a fix for your log.

Thank you for your help. Spybot detected a few more things. Seems as though this is still going on, though. HT Log:

have you specifically set this as your proxyserver ?
199.77.128.194:3128 if not then reboot into safe mode. and fix the following entries R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = 199.77.128.194:3128 i think you should fix the following entry O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [wmplayer] C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe then navigate to the C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\ and delete all the files in there. You can always get hold of windows media player 10 or winamp. then restart in normal mode and scan with hiajckthis. post a fresh log. Please look into getting an antivirus software. I reccomend AVG as it works well with zonealarm. you can get it here : http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php |

your log seems clean at the moment. Please post a fresh log if you ever run into any more problems please post a fresh log with a description fo your problem.
I see you dont have an antivirus software running. You really should run an Antivirus software. I would suggest you try the freely available AVG available here http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php It works well when combined with ZoneAlarm. Run scans with spybot and Adawre periodicaly and you should be alright. You also need to update your Internet Explorer. |
