Internet and Browser Problems
Hi
I'm not sure if I'm posting in the correct place or not, because I'm not exactly sure what is causing my problem. I'll give a brief overview of what is happening before I post any log files. I have two computers (laptop & desktop) both networked through a router. I began noticing problems on the desktop first. I use both IE and Firefox browsers and I have started having a problem with getting these to start. They have become slow and when they do load then the web sites I view are slow to load as well. Sometimes pages just hang and wont go any further. If I run the repair facility on my internet connection icon, the page I'm trying to view will sometimes load faster. At first I thought it might be a failing NIC, but the problem has started occurring on the other computer to. I ruled out cabling issues because my laptop is connected via wireless and the same problem is occurring there. It could still be a router problem but I don't know how to test this. It may also be a virus, when I run netstat I am seeing activity that I don't recognize. Thanks in advance |

Hi Toy Pilot
Have you tried running a complete scan on both computers with whatever security program you have installed? I only ask because you dont mention it in your post. If you have problems using your security software or if they are suddenly disabled, then I am pretty sure you have a virus. Regards Aage |

once for testing purpose disable the windows fire wall and you can try or del the tempory file and prefectch files or if your spy ware is enabled disable it and you can try it so it may work..all though its not working then you can check with other ISP so its will be clear ..that the problem is from ISP or your hardware or the OS

Hi Guys
Yes, I've scanned both computers with antivirus software. I used Eset Smart Security the first time and it didn't find anything. I've since uninstalled that and I'm now using Avira which did pick up a few things. But I'm still having the same problems. I don't understand the reasoning behind disabling my firewall as anand4hosting suggests. But my prefetch data is cleared when I run CCleaner. I can't see how this would speed anything up though, if anything, isn't that going to slow some of my programs down and make the situation worse? Please let me know if I need to re-describe the symptoms my computers are having or if you require me to start posting some logs. This problem seems to be intermittent, so I am putting up with it at the moment. I'd still like to find a solution to this issue, that if possible doesn't require a reformat. Thank you for your replies. |

Some ideas.
Check your DNS settings in your network configuration. Try pinging and/or tracert'ing some site url that's being slow. As mentioned, if it's safe (and you have a router so it should be) try disabling your firewall software for testing. Take a look at your hosts file. Check your browser's network settings. Try to further describe exactly what is slow and what if anything is showing in the browser status bar when it's being slow. Try a wired network connection from your laptop.
