Angry My PC is sending spam mails. Please help.

Hi, guys and girls.
I need you help.
My Norton Antivirus is constantly analysing mails being sent from my PC (not by me!! Outlook is closed) and From time to time a Norton message appears saying (in spanish in the original) "your message to whoever@whatever.com with the subject SEXUALLY-EXPLICIT: blah-blah, could not be sent........"
This means that some application is sending spam from my PC!!!!!!!

Can you help me with this, please?

Thanks a lot everyone, regards,
Elcho.

I think you should begin by reading the Stickys at the top of the forum.

Hi, guys and girls.
I've done my homework and read the stickys.
I've scanned my PC with Ad-Aware (4 objects found and fixed), Spybot SD (clean), and with TrendMicro (clean).

But the problem is not solved, my PC keeps on sending spam.

One thing: when I started by PC this morning it worked fine (no outcoming mails scanned by Norton) until I opened Outlook, then the problem started, and I keep on having messages sent out. This means that is is somehow linked to Outlook?

Finally, I send my HijackThis log (fresh after the scans).

Thanks a lot again,
Elcho.

Run HijackThis, click scan, place a checkmark next to the following items. Close all browsers and any other windows or the fix may not work! Click "fix checked". It is OK if some of these items are no longer listed.

These are resource hogs that can be fixed also:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Archivos de programa\Archivos comunes\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot

Please browse to this file, right-click the file > select properties is there a version tab? If so what information is displayed? Do not delete this file!

Hi, Tom.
I followed all you indications, but I still have the problem.

I also browsed the imm3sdtc.dll file, but no version tab appears.

Here is my fresh log:

I'd like you to do a couple of trojan scans. Install and perform a full system scan with each of these trial programs:

Please download Trojan Hunter

http://www.misec.net/trojanhunter/

Perform a full system scan. Please write down any files found and include this information in your next post. Delete any files that come up as a positive identification.

Next...

Please download DiamondCS TDS-3

http://tds.diamondcs.com.au/

Install the program, but do not scan with it yet!

Update the Radius definitions file. Right click this link and select "Save as". Save it to the directory where you installed TDS3 and let it replace the old Radius file.

http://www.diamondcs.com.au/tds/radius.td3

Start TDS3 > at the top of the program click System Testing > Full system scan > after scanning right-click the report, save as scandump.txt > submit the scandump.txt file into your next post.

Finally, right click the items in the list that come up a a Positive Identification and select delete.

Along with the information from the two scans above, please post a fresh HijackThis log.

Tom

Hi.
Here are the results from all the scans you asked. The problem is still there.

Hi Elcho,

Is your Norton Antivirus up to date? Is it configured to scan your email?

If you need a new antivirus program...

AVG has a new, free version available - AVG7 Free edition:

http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php.

Be sure to update it right away and perform a full system scan.

Make sure it is configured properly to scan your email!

Also...

I don't see a firewall running in your log. Are you using the firewall in XP Service Pack 2's Security Center? If so, are you aware that it only blocks incoming traffic? The spam your computer is sending out is considered outgoing traffic.

ZoneAlarm has a free firewall that controls traffic in both directions:

http://www.zonelabs.com/store/conte...reeDownload.jsp

Please be sure to disable the SP2 firewall if you install Zone Alarm. Leaving both running will cause conflicts. If you are switching firewalls, first download ZoneAlarm to a convenient place such as your desktop > log off the internet completely (if you have cable or DSL, disconnect the network or USB cable from the modem, or simply shut the modem off > disable SP2's firewall > click Start > Control Panel > click the Security Center icon > click the Windows Firewall icon > Click Off and then click OK. > install Zone Alarm > if you like, read the tutorial that will pop up at the end of installation for instructions on how to use.

Tom
