Hi jmorrison19,
You have a coolwebsearch infection, among other things. Please download CWShredder from Here Close all browser windows. Unzip it to a convenient location and select "Fix" (do not just Scan). It will automatically remove the infections. Reboot Move HijackThis to a permanent location such as C:\HJT and post a new log. Tom

Hi jm,
I've been down that link of a link of a link trail before, No fun at all! Run HijackThis again, place a checkmark next to this item and hit "Fix checked". Be sure to close all browser windows first or it may not work. O16 - DPF: {41F17733-B041-4099-A042-B518BB6A408C} - http://a1540.g.akamai.net/7/1540/52...meInstaller.exe Reboot into safe mode and delete meInstaller.exe Go to Windows Update and install all critical updates (this is probably how you got infected in the first place). Install each update, rebooting when necessary. Tom |

Reboot into safe mode and delete meInstaller.exe
Did all except for above (I wasn't able to find meInstaller.exe when I rebooted into safe mode.) Does the fact that it wasn't there mean it has been uninstalled ? Ran HiJackthis again and there was no sign of the O16 - DPF: {41F17733-B041-4099-A042-B518BB6A408C} - URL line. Last edited by jmorrison19 : March 30th, 2004 at 06:44 PM. |

It shouldn't be a problem.
O16 - DPF: {41F17733-B041-4099-A042-B518BB6A408C} - http://a1540.g.akamai.net/7/1540/52...meInstaller.exe Is an activex program that has been installed. It is probably harmless. Some people remove it, some don't. If a legit program ever needs it, it will be downloaded again. Sounds like you are good to go. Tom |

Again, thanks for your help.
Now, when I go MS Update I get an error message that says Windows Update Error Windows Update has encountered an error and cannot display the requested page. Select from any of the following pages for information about Windows Update services, or send us your feedback. Windows Update Home Page About Windows Update Support Information You can also get online support if you are having problems with Windows Update. I did download service pack 1 and installed it but later went back to my undo point because my outlook express settings got weird. (would not recognize multiple identities) Do I need to blow the service pack out ? or it there a work around Last edited by jmorrison19 : March 30th, 2004 at 09:58 PM. |

Seems you are not the only one with this problem related to Outlook Express, check this page out:

As far as Windows Update not continuing with the critical updates: Search for and delete the WUTEMP folder if found. Dump your Temporary Internet Files. |
