Hi Rockfall,
It sounds like your notepad has been replaced with a trojan. Lets get a better understanding of whats happening to your pc ![]() Please download a freely available tool called Hijackthis from here http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.html Read this thread please and then paste a new fresh log for us to see. http://forums.devshed.com/t216819/s.html Since you will not be able to view the log file in notepad, you need not copy paste the log into your next few posts but rather attach the log file to your next post

Ok I've done exactly what you said, except that a log file did come up in notepad, which is confusing...
i then decided to open the file in the folder 'WINDOWS', which worked and i checked the properties of the shortcut, which for some reason had the target location as 'C:\windows\system32\csrss.exe' so it seems that nothing was majorly wrong, but im still going to post the log just because there could still be a problem Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1 Scan saved at 22:34:01, on 03/07/2005 Platform: Windows XP SP1 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP1 (6.00.2800.1106) Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\RunDll32.exe C:\WINDOWS\htpatch.exe C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVGFRE~1\avgcc.exe C:\Program Files\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm\zlclient.exe C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\RUNDLL32.EXE C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\MsnMsgr.Exe C:\Documents and Settings\martyn\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\SoF2mp_min.exe C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVGFRE~1\avgamsvr.exe C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVGFRE~1\avgupsvc.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\nvsvc32.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ZONELABS\vsmon.exe C:\Program Files\iPod\bin\iPodService.exe C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunes.exe C:\Documents and Settings\martyn\Desktop\My Documents\HijackThis.exe R0 -
