nyam-nyam.biz/search.cgi about:blank

I need help on this another variant of about:blank. Ad-Aware, Spybot S&D, CWSShredder doesn't seem to detect it, but SpySweeper detects it. I read and tried different solutions on how to remove CWS about:blank but to no avail this one is different.

here is my HijackThis log(normal mode):

Hi Advent,

You are seriously behind on Windows Updates. This leaves your computer open to many threats. You will just get infected again if you don't install these! You need (at the minimum, XP Service Pack 1, Internet Explorer Service Pack 1 and all the critical updates that go along with them). Installing XP Service Pack 2 is up to you. I suggest visiting your computer (or motherboard) manufacturer's website and see if there are any updates to their firmware or drivers needed before applying Service Pack 2.

Let's get your computer cleaned up, then start downloading updates.

You might want to print these instructions for reference or copy and paste them into notepad and save them on your desktop, as you will be off the internet while using HijackThis.

If you have any questions before starting the fix, please don't hesitate to ask!

Please download and run LSPFix from here:

http://cexx.org/LSPFix.exe

On the opening screen, click "I know what I'm doing".. Check all instances of "osmim.dll" (and nothing else), and move them to the "Remove" pane. Then click Finish.

Logoff your internet connection. Run HijackThis, click scan, place a checkmark next to the following items. Close all browsers and any other windows or the fix may not work! Click "fix checked". It is OK if some of these items are no longer listed.

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/ie/defaults/su/ymsgr/*http://www.yahoo.com
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =

Is HISTHOST your ISP? If not fix this line too:
O15 - Trusted IP range: 213.159.118.226

These are resource hogs that can be fixed also:

O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\OSA.EXE

Please post a fresh HijackThis log.

Tom

Hey Tom,

I'm 15 updates behind before I can start installing SP1/2, when i checked windows update and for some reason my auto-update was turned off, must be my sister's doing. Can I download SP1/2 after removing the hijacker? or download right away?

-----EDIT-----
SpySweeper keeps blocking the changes and I was confused on which button to choose so now i choose Keep New command and R0,R1 was removed..

Anyway, heres the fresh log:

You're welcome!

Your final log is clean Is your computer behaving better?

Afrer resetting System Restore, you can start downloading windows updates. If you decide to go with SP2, make sure you back-up all critical data first!!! Also check computer (or motherboard) manufacturer's website and see if there are any updates to their firmware or drivers needed before applying Service Pack 2.

Because you were infected, backups of the malware may be in System Restore.

1 Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2 Click the System Restore tab.
3 Check the "Turn off System Restore" or "Turn off System Restore on all drives" check box.
4 Click Apply
5 this will delete all existing restore points. Click Yes to do this.
6 Click OK.

Reboot

1 Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2 Click the System Restore tab.
3 Uncheck the "Turn off System Restore" or "Turn off System Restore on all drives" check box.
4 Click Apply
5 Click OK.

Create a new Restore Point:

Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore > tick Create a Restore Point > Next > enter a name for the Restore Point Creation (Today, Removed Spyware, etc.) > Create > Close.

The date and time will automatically be added.

Then....

These are tools that will help keep you from getting infected again:

SpywareBlaster prevents the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests. Blocks spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox. Restricts the actions of potentially dangerous sites in InternetExplorer.

http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

SpywareGuard provides a real-time protection solution against spyware that is a great addition to SpywareBlaster's protection method.

http://www.wilderssecurity.net/spywareguard.html

IE-SPYAD puts over 4000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.

http://www.staff.uiuc.edu/~ehowes/resource.htm#IESPYAD

MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer

http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm

All are very small free programs. Occasionally check for updates.

Check for updates for Windows and Internet Explorer every week or so. Download each critical update one by one, rebooting when necessary.. Repeat this until you get the message "no critical updates available"

http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/

Please take a minute to read: So how did I get infected in the first place?

http://forums.net-integration.net/i...?showtopic=3051

Also, if you take the time to check over this Home Computer Security guide from CERT and follow it's guidelines, you will have much less computer problems:

Let's start here:

Download this program:

http://www.downloads.subratam.org/DllCompare.exe

Open the program and click the "Run Locate.com" button.
Then click the "Compare" button (this will take a few minutes)
When it finishes click the "Make Log...." button.

Copy and paste the log to your next post.

Advent,

Run the program one more time and click the "Run Locate.com" button.
Then click the "Compare" button (this will take a few minutes).

Files in the upper portion have been verified to "exist" as where Files in the bottom section have some form of problem being accessed. There will be only minimal, if any files listed there... once that Compare scan is complete, and you find you have a few files listed in the lower box.

Click on any of the listed entries to select it.. Right click the mouse and use the Option Rescan

This will run the file through the standard Windows Find and if it does exist, will be removed from the list (to further filter the found objects).

After that if you are left with files that are still not found, click the Make a Log of what was found button, and post that log.

Tom
