Hi ndeez,
Please move or unzip HijackThis to a permanent folder such as C:\HJT\ It is important that it is in it's own folder as it will make important backups of what we will fix. Please open My Computer > double-click your C:\ drive > File > New > Folder > name it HJT and put HijackThis into that folder. Please post a fresh hijackthis log. Tom

Heres the new log.
ok, I ran Norton in safe mode with system restore off and found a trojan. Quarentined that. Have run adaware and also spybot and find nothing but dialers. Have also run Trojan Remover (which found nothing) and spywareblaster. Hopefully we can fix the problem from this log. Thanks for your help

You might want to print these instructions for reference, as you will be off the internet while using HijackThis.
You are running Wild Tangent. Though technically not malware, it is foistware. If you installed it on purpose, I recommend that you remove it unless you feel it's something you really want and need. If you didn't install it deliberately, then definitely get rid of it.... To do so, go to Add/Remove Programs and remove it there. Also, go to your Control Panel and delete the Wild Tangent icon there. Remove the associated items in RED below. Then.... Logoff your internet connection. Run HijackThis, close all browsers and any other windows, click scan, place a checkmark next to the following items. Click "fix checked". It is OK if some of these items are no longer listed. R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/ie/defaults/sb/sbcydsl/*http://www.yahoo.com/search/ie.html R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/ie/defaults/sp/sbcydsl/*http://www.yahoo.com R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/ie/defaults/su/sbcydsl/*http://www.yahoo.com R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/ie/defaults/sb/sbcydsl/*http://www.yahoo.com/search/ie.html R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/ie/defaults/sp/sbcydsl/*http://www.yahoo.com R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/ie/defaults/su/sbcydsl/*http://www.yahoo.com O2 - BHO: (no name) - {549B5CA7-4A86-11D7-A4DF-000874180BB3} - (no file) O2 - BHO: (no name) - {FDD3B846-8D59-4ffb-8758-209B6AD74ACC} - (no file) O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [IPInSightLAN 02] "C:\Program Files\Visual Networks\Visual IP InSight\SBC\IPClient.exe" -l O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WildTangent CDA] RUNDLL32.exe "C:\Program Files\WildTangent\Apps\CDA\cdaEngine0400.dll",cdaEngineMain O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [StartPage] C:\windows\rundll32.exe O16 - DPF: {10003000-1000-0000-1000-000000000000} - ms-its:mhtml:file://C:\foo.mht!http://195.225.177.13/20609/online.chm::/on-line.exe This is a resource hog that is not needed at startup. Yes, I often get that message from Norton while working on this type of infection. I got one by just working on your log yesterday. It's from the malformed url in your old log: O16 - DPF: {10003000-1000-0000-1000-000000000000} - ms-its:mhtml:file://C:\foo.mht!http://195.225.177.13/20609/online.chm::/on-line.exe There has been a discussion in the anti-spyware community, and it was agreed upon that it is a false-positve detection from Norton. If you would like, perform an online scan: Perform a couple of online virus scans. Choose at least two of the following sites listed. Trend Micro Housecall http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ Panda Active Scan www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/activescan Bitdefender http://www.bitdefender.com/scan/licence.php I will check over your last log. Good work! Your log is clean. Are you still having high CPU usage?
In light of the recent infections, let's purge system restore. 1 Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties. 2 Click the System Restore tab. 3 Check the "Turn off System Restore" or "Turn off System Restore on all drives" check box. 4 Click Apply 5 this will delete all existing restore points. Click Yes to do this. 6 Click OK. Reboot 1 Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties. 2 Click the System Restore tab. 3 Uncheck the "Turn off System Restore" or "Turn off System Restore on all drives" check box. 4 Click Apply 5 Create a new Restore Point. 6 Click OK. These are tools that will help keep you from getting infected again: SpywareBlaster will block bad ActiveX and malevolent cookies. http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html SpywareGuard provides a real-time protection solution against spyware that is a great addition to SpywareBlaster's protection method. http://www.wilderssecurity.net/spywareguard.html IE-SPYAD puts over 4000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all. http://www.staff.uiuc.edu/~ehowes/resource.htm#IESPYAD All are very small free programs. Occasionally check for updates. Check for updates for Windows and Internet Explorer every week or so. Download each critical update one by one, rebooting when necessary.. Repeat this until you get the message "no critical updates available" http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ Please take a minute to read: So how did I get infected in the first place? http://computercops.biz/postlite7736-.html Tom |

Everything is done.
ok I purged system restore.
Computer is running alot smoother now that we fixed the log and I ran alot of the anti spyware stuff. Im noticing now that the only time the CPU jumps to 100% is when I open an large application. The task manager shows the .exe file of the app I have open Jump then die to 0% The CPU fan comes on and stuff starts slowing down. I think this is not virus relatated. Do you have any suggestions? |
