Outlook Express Problems help!

I've been using outlook without problems for the last couple of years. Suddenly, I can't send or receive e-mails. I keep getting timed out on the server with this message 'time out occured while communicating with the server Account 'Pop3 tesco.net' sever 'mail tesco.net' Protocol Pop 3.

I've contacted the ISP who said they do not have a server problem.

It has given the message 'do you want to abort current download' when switching identities.

It looks as if I may have a virus (although Norton says I'm clean) or that Outlook has been corrupted or a block in the system!

I use a router modem for internet connections and I can send e-mails through another ISP.

Hope someone can give me some help

Since this isn't a mail server issue, I've moved the thread from Mail Server Help to Windows Help.

Send a message via ICQ to Dngrsone Send a message via Yahoo to Dngrsone
It does sound like a malware problem. Try downloading and running hijackthis and posting the log in the Antivirus forum.

Are you doing this through Outlook too ?? If so, then I would think it would be a problem with your ISP connection.

Although, do as Dngrsone suggests first and see if that pops up anything.

Sorry, I just read your first post again and noticed the above line !

It could be that you have a very large e-mail sitting on the server trying to download but runs out of time. Contact your ISP again and they should be able to tell you if this is the case and who sent the email to you and then ask them to delete it from their server. You can then contact the sender of the email and discuss what was in it and ask them nicely not to send you any e-mails of that size !

Just an idea.....

Many thanks for your contributions. I seem to have solved the problem. I was advised to turn off Norton antivirus. Then open Outlook and then reapply the virus checker. This appears to have freed up the system and e-mails are arriving normally. I've encountered problems with Nortion before, even with the firewall tuned off it can stop items that should be allowed in.

I will do some virus scans and hijack checks to clean anything else that might be hidding I there.

Thanks again

Glad you got it all sorted. Somtimes the problem can be an unlikely source !
