Question SBYBOT, TROJAN, you name it; how do I ger rid of it. Windows 2000 pro

I have been sick of this virus(s) for some time. These pirate programs have affected the way my computer starts (after about 5 trys), performs, my home pages, etc (i cant even get into my msconfig; says the file is missing). After reading a couple of posts I downloaded some programs that I noticed others were using. I am extremely novice at best and I want to make sure I do this right so I am going to post what hijackthis printed out. If someone can walk me through this it would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Damon

Hi dlites,

You might want to print these instructions for reference or copy and paste them into notepad and save them on your desktop, as you will be off the internet while using HijackThis.

If you have any questions before starting the fix, please don't hesitate to ask!

You have a coolwebsearch infection, among other things. Please download CWShredder from Here Save it to a convenient location such as your Desktop

Close ALL browser windows or it may not work! Run CWShredder and select "Fix" (do not just Scan). It will automatically remove the infections.

Next...

Logoff your internet connection. Run HijackThis, click scan, place a checkmark next to the following items. Close all browsers and any other windows or the fix may not work! Click "fix checked". It is OK if some of these items are no longer listed.

Do you have any idea what this is? If not, please browse to the file, right-click the file > select properties is there a version tab? If so what information is displayed? Please treat this file with caution.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [RecoverFromReboo] C:\WINNT\Temp\RECOVE~1.EXE

These are resource hogs that can be fixed also:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ViewMgr] C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe
O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\OSA9.EXE

Next....

Go to Start > Run > type "cleanmgr" (without the quotes). > Select the drive to clean up (usually C ) > Place a checkmark next to the following:

Temporary Internet Files
Recycle Bin
Temporary Files

Then click OK.

Reset your home page to what you want. Start IE > click Tools > Internet options > type in the address of your home page > click OK.

Reboot normally.

Please post a fresh HijackThis log.

Tom
