Hi Bern_65,

You might want to print these instructions.

Please press Ctrl-Alt-Delete and open Task Manager. End the following process, if running, by selecting it and pressing the End Process button and clicking Yes to the confirmation message:

Site Bits Multi.exe

Log off your internet connection. Close all browsers and any other windows except HijackThis. Run HijackThis, place a checkmark next to the following items. Click "fix checked".

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://searchweb2.com/passthrough/i....google.com.au/
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName =
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run:[listthunk] C:\PROGRA~1\WARNWI~1\Site Bits Multi.exe

Optional fixes:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime

Is System Tray access to Apple's "Quick Time" you can safely delete this resource hog.

O4 - Startup: Office Startup.lnk = C:\office 97\Office\OSA.EXE
04 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\OSA.EXE

Resource hogs that launches common MS Office components to help speed up the launch of Office programs. Some users claim there's no difference with or without it but it isn't required anyway.

This is an odd entry. Could you search for a file called: ssmon, right click it and post any version information available?

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ssmgr] ssmon

This one has the potential of being malware:

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ctfmon.exe] C:\WINDOWS\System32\ctfmon.exe

Could you search for ctfmon.exe, right click it and post the version info?

Boot into Safe Mode. Reboot your computer, start tapping F8 when it first starts booting, select Safe Mode.

Show hidden files:
How to Show hidden files and folders.
http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html

Delete the following folder:

C:\PROGRA~1\WARNWI~1\

Reboot normally and post a fresh log, including the header information.

Tom

Good job! Your log is clean!

You are way behind on Windows Updates. This leaves your computer open to many threats. You will just get infected again if you don't install these! Please update Windows and Internet Explorer. Download each critical update one by one, rebooting when necessary.. Repeat this until you get the message "no critical updates available". http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/

These are tools that will help heep you from getting infected again:

SpywareBlaster will block bad ActiveX and malevolent cookies. http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

SpywareGuard is a real-time spyware scanner.
http://www.wilderssecurity.net/spywareguard.html

IE-SPYAD puts over 4000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.
http://www.staff.uiuc.edu/~ehowes/resource.htm#IESPYAD

All are very small free programs. Occasionally check for updates.

Adjust your security settings for ActiveX:
Go to Internet Options/Security/Internet, press 'default level', then OK.
Now press "Custom Level."
In the ActiveX section, set the first two options ("Download signed and unsigned ActiveX controls) to 'prompt', and 'Initialize and Script ActiveX controls not marked as safe" to 'disable'.

Check for updates for Windows and Internet Explorer every week or so.

Tom
