Search2Web problem

Hi, I've deleted the search2web files i could find from the hijackthis search and run various different spyware removal programs but spyware guard keeps, everytime i boot up my system, showing me that the search2 passthrough through google is trying to set itself as my default home page. I also have a blue bar at the top of my screen with various search options, not sure if its part of the same pest. This is my report. I would really appreciate some help. Thanks

Hi hotdog_1984,

You might want to print these instructions.

You are way behind on Windows Updates. This leaves your computer open to many threats. You will just get infected again if you don't install these! Please Update Windows and Internet Explorer. Download each critical update one by one, rebooting when necessary.. Repeat this until you get the message "no critical updates available"
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/

Logoff your internet connection. Close all browsers and other windows except HijackThis. Run HijackThis, place a checkmark next to the following items. Click "fix checked".

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {00D6A7E7-4A97-456f-848A-3B75BF7554D7} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {D6D63A40-BD0C-46DF-593A-76966B3D0B46} - C:\PROGRA~1\VIEWFI~1\drawdeaf.dll
O3 - Toolbar: Boob Cake 4 - {A672D854-8DB0-E139-936D-3939C0826B94} - C:\PROGRA~1\VIEWFI~1\drawdeaf.dll

If this doesn't look familiar (related to a program name you know of) fix this too:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Bone Build] C:\PROGRA~1\PHONES~1\BibKeepSeek.exe

These are resource hogs.... OK to fix:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\program files\Microsoft Office\Office\OSA9.EXE

What is the full path to this file? It will be something like C:\Program Files\Viewfi..... If it is not a program you installed, delete the entire folder:

C:\PROGRA~1\VIEWFI~1\

If you delete BibKeepSeek.exe Delete this folder too:

C:\PROGRA~1\PHONES~1\

Reboot and post a fresh log.

Tom

You are clean! Great work in malware removal!!!

There are 4 new critical Windows Updates that just came out. You might want to double check to see if you have them (I just downloaded them myself).

These are tools that will help heep you from getting infected again:

SpywareBlaster will block bad ActiveX and malevolent cookies. http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

SpywareGuard is a real-time spyware scanner.
http://www.wilderssecurity.net/spywareguard.html

IE-SPYAD puts over 4000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.
http://www.staff.uiuc.edu/~ehowes/resource.htm#IESPYAD

All are very small free programs. Occasionally check for updates.

Adjust your security settings for ActiveX:
Go to Internet Options/Security/Internet, press 'default level', then OK.
Now press "Custom Level."
In the ActiveX section, set the first two options ("Download signed and unsigned ActiveX controls) to 'prompt', and 'Initialize and Script ActiveX controls not marked as safe" to 'disable'.

Check for updates for Windows and Internet Explorer every week or so. Download each critical update one by one, rebooting when necessary.. Repeat this until you get the message "no critical updates available"

Cheers Tom, Just gonna download the new updates now. Ive got all that spy protection software. Just one last question. I used to get the automatic updates icon appear in the bottom right of my screen when new ones were available and the reason i was so far behind was because that stopped. I havent had a prompt for ages. Any idea why mate?

Right-click My Computer > Properties > Automatic Updates > make sure "Keep my computer up to date" is checked > choose one of the options regarding how you want your updates to be downloaded and installed.
