Spyware/trojan virus
Last night I accidentally downloaded a program that contained a trojan virus. Soon a icon came up on my system tray for 'Virus Buster 6.2' telling me to d/l this anti-virus program. Being slightly internet savy, i could tell that this was a hoax. My legit anti-virus sophware (AVG free- Latest edition) went crazy telling me that i had more trojan viruses. After cleaning these, pop-up ads started coming up on my computer. I knew that I had a spyware infection. I proceeded to download spybot search and destroy, Ad aware SE, and Zone alarm personal edition (the free one). Betwen spybot and Ad-Aware, I cleansed about 300 cases of spyware. Now spybot pops up multiple times a second saying that is has blocked a bad program (ishost.exe). This continual blocking/deletion of ishost.exe is slowing my computer down. In addition to ishost.exe, ismini.exe is also running on my computer. I believe this to be another part of this spyware infestation.
Zone alarm also pops up every hour telling me that it has blocked an attempt to access my comp. Last time it popped up, it said that someone was trying to ping my machine. Could someone help me rid my comp of this pesky spyware/adware. Also when i run AVG it tells me I have that same confounded trojan virus on my computer. I ran it at about 6:30 this morning and the virus hasn't come back since. But im sure it is coming back. |

As you have already ran Spybot and Ad-Adaware, can you now download, update the definitions and run AVG Anti-Spyware and Trojan Hunter. After you have ran all these programs, run a thorough Anti-Virus scan.
Once you have run these programs, please post a HijackThis log for us to look at.

Hi,
can you first run the scans Aitken advised (except the hijackthis for now) and also download smitfraudfix. Check your add remove programs and see if virusbuster is there, if it is remove it. Then disable system restore and then reboot to safemode and run it and clean whatever it finds. Boot back into normal mode and now run hijackthis. Post the results here for us to look at with any sympthoms you are currently experiencing. Displeaser

Thanks for everyone's help. It seems that all I had to do is run AVG and Ad-Aware in safe mode. Ad-Aware founds 5 critical objects, i fixed them, and all seems to be well.
