if you suspect it is malware that is affecting your pc, please download "Hijackthis" from the link given below (or in my signature) and install it to a permanent folder. then scan and save a log file. copy paste the whole log into your next post or posts here. we'll take a look at it and let you know if it is indeed spyware/adware/malware thats affecting your pc.

couple of things i'd like to know about:
1) since when have you had this problem ?
2) are then any other problems with the computer in general since this problem started ?
3) have you recently made any system changes, or installed or uninstalled any software ?

cheers

I am having this problem since the last 2 days .. I can't restore the system since I tried windows repair and now the comp is not taking the any previous dates to restore. In general the computer works fine no issues
Now about installing a programme yes I have installed plenty and I have Uninstalled couple of them like the peer to peer software e-mule and one game .
I will try High jack this and see if it still troubles me .. I think that it is Malware.. let me try hijack this ..

Thanks for the suggestion, it is really appreciated will get back to you...

One more thing ..that can help you to identify the problem is that my system 32 folder has been disappear although it is in the Windows folder and whenever I type c:windows\system32 in start run it opens but you can't locate this folder physically .. it is not present even when the hidden files view option enabled... Can anything be done to bring it down back to the previous condition.. I think thats where the problem lies..

hello biggi1579 (anuj ?) ,
i see your from india from the fact that you are using siffy. me too
It appears you are running hijackthis from a temporary folder. please unzip hijackthis to a permanent location on your harddisk and run it again. then post a fresh log please.
Try running this command from the run prompt directly "sfc /scannow". you will need your windows xp cd in hand for it will prompt you for the cd if any system files have been tampered with or damaged.

but its important you post a hijackthis log here after you run hijackthis from a permanent location.
cheers

Hi biggi1579,

I would like you to perform an onlne virus scan at Trend Micro Housecall

http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

Select all of your drives listed for scanning. Please check "Auto clean" before scanning.

Please copy and paste the report logs from the scan into your next post. If you can't capture the information, please write down what was found and if anything was or was not deleted. Please include this information in your next post.

Next....

Let's do some more cleaning up:

Download Ad-Aware SE Personal Edition version 1.06 from:

http://www.lavasoft.de/support/download/

Run Adaware, click the "Check for Updates now" link. Install the latest reference file

Perform a full system scan with Adaware, allow it to remove anything it finds. It may ask if it can run the next time your computer boots, allow it to do so.

Then...

Download Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.3 from.

http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html

Make sure you are online, run Spybot - Search & Destroy, click the "Check for Updates now" link. Install the latest reference file

Scan and fix all items checked in RED.

Reboot and post a fresh HijackThis log.

Tom

Your HijackThis log is clean.

Did Ad-aware, Spybot or Housecall find anything?

Do you have any other problems with your computer other than the ones you first posted? This problem can be virus related, or damage to your operating system.

Yes Housecall did find something and I deleted that item, and today all of a sudden I find that start run is working fine it didn't happened on Friday the day I saw your comments and followed your instructions but today everything seems to be working fine.
There is just one problem the System 32 Folder is non traceable I can't search it and find it though it is there .. But I think It worked the way you ask me to deal with the problem ... Thanks a lot it is really appreciated...

It might be worth your time to do a trojan scan.

Please download DiamondCS TDS-3

http://tds.diamondcs.com.au/

Install the program, but do not scan with it yet!

Update the Radius definitions file. Right click this link and select "Save as". Save it to the directory where you installed TDS3 and let it replace the old Radius file.

http://www.diamondcs.com.au/tds/radius.td3

Start TDS3 > at the top of the program click System Testing > Full system scan > after scanning righ
