The blue search bar
Hi, I have exhausted all my resources, but I think the wonderful people here may be able to help.
This is not a problem with my computer, it is with a friend's whom I cannot work on myself. All I know is that he has that blue search bar at the bottom of explorer. I had him download Hijack This and have a copy of the logfile, but I have NO IDEA on what should be fixed. I would like to say Thank you in advance! Hi chibichibi,
You might want to print these instructions for reference or copy and paste them into notepad and save them on your desktop, as you will be off the internet while using HijackThis. If you have any questions before starting the fix, please don't hesitate to ask! Please go to: http://www.kaspersky.com/scanforvirus Using their single file scanning tool, browse to each of the files below and submit it for antivirus scanning. O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Riot] C:\Documents and Settings\josh\Application Data\p??h?.exe O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Nthr] C:\WINNT\System32\?hkntfs.exe If they turn up infected, please remove them with HijackThis and delete them in Safe Mode along with the files listed below. Next... Please go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove programs and remove: Marketscore Internet Accelerator Next... Please download and run LSPFix from here: http://cexx.org/LSPFix.exe On the opening screen, click "I know what I'm doing".. Check all instances of "osmim.dll" (and nothing else), and move them to the "Remove" pane. Then click Finish. Next... Logoff your internet connection. Run HijackThis, click scan, place a checkmark next to the following items. Close all browsers and any other windows or the fix may not work! Click "fix checked". It is OK if some of these items are no longer listed. This is a registration reminder that is used by a number of different companies. It is not needed and some people think that it reports back to the company about your computer, so I suggest fixing it... O4 - Startup: PowerReg Scheduler V3.exe Next... Boot into Safe Mode. Reboot your computer, start tapping F8 when it first starts booting, select Safe Mode. Make sure your computer is configured to show all files and folders. Click Start. Open My Computer. Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options. Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden Files and Folders heading select Show Hidden Files and Folders. Uncheck hide extensions for known file types. Uncheck the Hide Protected Operating System Files option. Click Yes to confirm. Click OK. Go to Start > Run > type "cleanmgr" (without the quotes). > Select the drive to clean up (usually C ) > Place a checkmark next to the following: Temporary Internet Files Recycle Bin Temporary Files Then click OK. Reboot normally and post a fresh HijackThis log. While you are waiting on a response from me..... You are seriously behind on Windows Updates. This leaves your computer open to many threats. You will just get infected again if you don't install these! Please update Windows and Internet Explorer. Download each critical update one by one, rebooting when necessary.. Repeat this until you get the message "no critical updates available". http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ Tom
