Updateprotection.net

Everytime I open my IE, a site with the URL www.updateprotection.net pops up, advertising anti-spyware progs and such. I've run Spybot S&D, Ad-aware and my AVG, but it doesn't seem to fix the problem.

So, did you update AVG, adaware and spybot before scanning? When you were scanning did they find something they could not remove?

Can you install,
Ewido
Trojan hunter (Demo version).

Update Ewido & Trojan hunter and then do a Housecall scan. Make a note of anything any of the tools cannot delete, remove or disable.

Reboot & do another hijackthis scan and post the results here for us to look at.

Did ewido/trojan hunter or housecall catch anything that wasnt caught before? are you still getting the same sympthoms?

It did catch some things the others didn't catch, but I'm still having the same problems.

You could try Rootkit revealer.

If it was my box - backup and format c: - once that crap gets in you have no idea what follows...

Did you do the housecall scan?

Theres not much that I can see in the log (other then general house-keeping)

So if you set your homepage to google, close IE & open it again, does the homepage is change to the updateprotection stuff or is only on a reboot.

Which one is that? My version is in German.

And it changes to that site each time I open the internet explorer, not just on a reboot.

Housecall is a free online virus scan. You can get it here. Run a scan with that if you havnt already. also, install spywareguard, that should (hopefully) tell us what is changing the homepage.

Ooops, I forgot to say open IE, Change your homepage to www.google.com. Install spyware guard. Close IE and start it again. Hopefully you will get a popup box from spyware guard which may have the name of the program trying to change your homepage.

I think it's fixed now. Trojan Hunter found a couple of trojans and deleted them. Now it's working fine.
