Virus on my buddy's comp

Alright well by buddy got this virus on his computer and we can't figure out how to get rid of it. He won't tell me how he got it... He can run AVG or Adaware but he doesn't get anything. He says he can't even update them. According to him when he trys to download them it won't let him open the link (we've tried using different browsers). He said he also couldn't use spybot or malaware. I tried running Kaspersky and it keeps crashing in the middle while it is updating files.

I'm hoping one of you guys have an idea of what he can try...

lw22,

This isn't exactly the best forum for asking about virus removal. There is actually a forum dedicated to that.

Before you post a thread there, I would really recommend thoroughly reading Porthos' guide and following those instructions.

Best of luck getting it taken care of!

Sounds a lot like that Conflicker.C virus that got a lot of hype last week. Go look here to see if you are infected. Problem is that at the time I posted this, that link was not working, but I KNOW it was a few hours ago (check at home last night.) So I am posting that link hoping it is a temporary site outage and will be back up later today.

As much as some of us hate Norton as a program, it's hard to deny that SARC has some pretty decent tools and virus info.

There's always the removal tool to run as well

I don't really have much more to tell you than what the people above me did. I dunno a whole lot about viruses, but that does sound like conficker. That link AdamPi posted is great for checking that.

Oh, and completely wrong forum, bud. I don't really think viruses have much to do with computer HARDWARE.
