Weird processes running, spyware, HJT Log posted

I have some weird processes running on my computer that restart after I stop them. I use Firefox, but every once in a while ads pop up in Internet Explorer. These ads are generated from those processes, because everytime I stop one, it starts again and an ad pops up. I've run Ad-aware (updated), and Spybot S&D (updated), and it finds thing, and everytime I delete them, but the problem is still there. Any help would be appreciated. Here is my Hijack This log:

It shows that iexplore.exe is running in the processes list, but IE is not running. And I don't know if I should just delete Idk277g.exe from the system folder or the other files.

Hi mrhuntman,

I realize you mentioned before that you have an academic version of XP and you have difficulties in running Windows Updates. We are going to have to find a way to get you updated, your problems are recurring too often.

Please perform an onlne virus scan from this site:

Trend Micro Housecall - Select all of your drives for scanning. Please check "Auto clean" before scanning.

http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

If you can, copy and paste the report logs from the scans into your next post.

Please post a fresh HijackThis log.

Tom

I will not be able to perform the scans until Sunday night because I am not at that computer. As soon as I can, I will post them. Thanks.

I didn't know how to post the log, but it found two files. One is called TROJ 167.A, but it couldn't be accessed or deleted. The other was another TROJ but I deleted it. The first one was found in the Java Sun folder.

Here is my new HJT log:

You might want to print these instructions for reference or copy and paste them into notepad and save them on your desktop, as you will be off the internet while using HijackThis.

If you have any questions before starting the fix, please don't hesitate to ask!

You are infected with the peper/sandboxer trojan:

Please download Newuninst:

http://downloads.subratam.org/Newuninst.exe

Save it to your Desktop. Click on the Newuninst.exe to launch it. Click Uninstall

Next...

Boot into Safe Mode. Reboot your computer, start tapping F8 when it first starts booting, select Safe Mode.

Run HijackThis, click scan, place a checkmark next to the following items. Close all browsers and any other windows or the fix may not work! Click "fix checked". It is OK if some of these items are no longer listed.

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = res://msaps.dll/search.html
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = res://msaps.dll/search.html

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Eost] C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\suer.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Rdjtnumc] C:\WINDOWS\System32\w?nspool.exe

These are resource hogs that can be fixed also:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot
O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\OSA.EXE

Make sure your computer is configured to show all files and folders.
Click Start.
Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden Files and Folders heading select Show Hidden Files and Folders.
Uncheck hide extensions for known file types.
Uncheck the Hide Protected Operating System Files option.
Click Yes to confirm.
Click OK.

Search for and delete the following files:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\nmcj.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\tss.exe
C:\documents and settings\administrator\local settings\temp\Wt1.exe
C:\documents and settings\administrator\local settings\temp\EdgTem.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\cabinet8.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\MtyJ62.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\suer.exe

Next....

Go to Start > Run > type "cleanmgr" (without the quotes). > Select the drive to clean up (usually C ) > Place a checkmark next to the following:

Temporary Internet Files
Recycle Bin
Temporary Files

Then click OK.

Reboot normally.

Next...

Please download the trial version of DiamondCS TDS-3

http://tds.diamondcs.com.au/

Install the program, but do not scan with it yet!

Update the Radius definitions file. Right click this link and select "Save as". Save it to the directory where you installed TDS3 and let it replace the old Radius file.

http://www.diamondcs.com.au/tds/radius.td3

Start TDS3 > at the top of the program click System Testing > Full system scan > after scanning right-click the report, save as scandump.txt > submit the scandump.txt file into your next post.

Finally, right click the items in the list that come up a a Positive Identification and select delete.

Please post a fresh HijackThis log.

Good work! Your log is clean

I cannot find any information regarding the inability to upgrade an academic version of XP with Windows Updates. I suggest contacting Microsoft and find out why you can't update your computer.

Microsoft Product Support Services:

support.microsoft.com/support/contact/default.asp

Because you were infected, backups of the malware may be in System Restore.

1 Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2 Click the System Restore tab.
3 Check the "Turn off System Restore" or "Turn off System Restore on all drives" check box.
4 Click Apply
5 this will delete all existing restore points. Click Yes to do this.
6 Click OK.

Reboot

1 Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2 Click the System Restore tab.
3 Uncheck the "Turn off System Restore" or "Turn off System Restore on all drives" check box.
4 Click Apply
5 Click OK.

Create a new Restore Point:

Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore > tick Create a Restore Point > Next > enter a name for the Restore Point Creation (Today, Removed Spyware, etc.) > Create > Close.

The date and time will automatically be added.

Then....

These are tools that will help keep you from getting infected again:

SpywareBlaster prevents the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests. Blocks spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox. Restricts the actions of potentially dangerous sites in InternetExplorer.

http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

SpywareGuard provides a real-time protection solution against spyware that is a great addition to SpywareBlaster's protection method.

http://www.wilderssecurity.net/spywareguard.html

IE-SPYAD puts over 4000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.

http://www.staff.uiuc.edu/~ehowes/resource.htm#IESPYAD

MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer

http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm

All are very small free programs. Occasionally check for updates.

Check for updates for Windows and Internet Explorer every week or so. Download each critical update one by one, rebooting when necessary.. Repeat this until you get the message "no critical updates available"

http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/

Please take a minute to read: So how did I get infected in the first place?
