What do you good people think of Microsoft Antispyware Beta?
I searched this forum for "microsoft antispyware beta" and got 2 uninformative results. I was trying to determine whether it is an accepted antispyware tool in the eyes of you that are in-the-know.
I really like it. I have always used the combo of Spybot and Adaware, but MS antispyware beta has some great features IMHO - but I'm no expert. I have thoroughly read the stickys here while battling a nasty virus and noticed no mention of the MS product. I sure would like to hear what you guys think of it. By the way the sticky's at the top of this forum are wonderful. I now use AVG7 and ZoneAlarm and have never felt more confident about the protection of my PC. Thanks guys! Rob |

I think Microsoft AntiSpyware is one of the best virus removers, cleaners, and threat detectors that I've ever used (a free version of one that is). MS AntiSpyware has almost everything you need to be comfortable with removing computer threats, and it's still in Beta. I would recommend it over SpyBot, however Lavasoft Ad-Aware SE Professional 1.6 is my number one choice still.

I personally feel that MS AntiSpyware is pretty decent for a free offering, and since its from MS themselves, likely to see rapid development and improvements in the near future. BUt since it is still in beta mode, i would rely totally on it for now. Once its goes into stable production, i would be much happier to consider it. But right now for a beta version it looks promising
![]() Seems to hog computer resources a bit though.. just a personal observation, .. could have been just a one off on my pc, but it did slow my xp down a sizeable amount.

It didn't seem to slow my pc down at all. Lavasoft slows my pc down a lot though.

The only problems i ever had with Adaware was when i had apache running as a service on a comp i used for my work, and as server. i finally took off adaware.
Basically the whole sp2 service pack made that comp amazingly slow. I have no clue why. I still havent used sp2 on the other comp, even though its bad policy to not upgrade and use the latest service packs. I cant help it, but the other comp ios my work machine and i need it to be fast andresponsive. |

Thanks for the feedback. I noticed that today (6-24-05) MS antispyware beta got updated. I haven't read what was fixed/enhanced yet.
I guess I'll continue to keep it in my arsenal. I especially like the ability to click a button and put IE back to default/saved setting. Goodbye search bars! It has never failed me. Any other gurus want to weigh-in on this? Please do! Tom Myboy - I'd like to hear what you think. Thanks, Rob |

Guess you missed this post LOL! http://forums.devshed.com/t219220/s.html
anyway to update I have this on about 30 boxes still evaluating and it works very well no complaint except removing it can cause some issues with IE. (only happened once) spy sweeper has been the best microsoft #2 ( way better then adaware especialy two years ago) I have used however. But for a corporate environment it has been stable and updates itself and its free. Last edited by juniperr : June 24th, 2005 at 02:38 PM. |
