Question Windows XP w/100% CPU (no spyware/virus detected)

A couple of days ago my system slowed to a standstill. I hadn't installed any new software. I scanned for spyware (which found nothing), and left a norton scan running at about 2 p.m. The next morning it had only scanned 3500 files. I closed the program, and ran the online housecall virus scan, and it did pick up one virus (Troj_RVP.d) in a file called xclean.exe, which I deleted.

The CPU usage is continually 100%. The process that is taking up most usage is "System" which fluctuates between 96% and 99%. Other items usually bounce around 2% or 0%.

I have double checked to make sure all the processes are legit, and there is one I'm a bit suspicious of - the mmtask.exe process. I found a 'mmtask.exe - 3A1Ed548.pf' file in the windows prefetch folder and the size is only 11kb as opposed to the 52 kb file that is the the actual musicmatch directory.

I am going to post this under the Windows forum as well, but as of right now I'm unsure of whether this is a virus issue or a system issue.

The specs on my system are as follows:

Pentium 4 1.8 Ghz, w/256 RAM

And Here's the Log:

Thumbs up Problem Solved

I had plugged in a scanner into a USB port. Last night I unplugged it before I shut down, and lo and behold, everything is running smoothly this morning.

There must be some compatibility issues with the scanner.
