    Linux Virus Detection

    Hi,
I am running Linux Red Hat 7.2. I have been experiencing new problems like trouble booting, slow ftp, slow sendmail, and samba seems to be gone -- or put somewhere new . I have been nosing around devshed for a while looking for answers and I come across the question of, "do I have a virus". Question for you is how do you run a virus scan on Linux. Is there something out there like Norton?

    Thanks for the link

Do you have any words of wisdom. Maybe some of the do's and don'ts of the software. Do you use this software yourself? And has anyone else thats reading this ever used this software?

due to the nature of nix boxes - u can probably count the number of viri for linux on 1 hand (most of them are worms!). most programs have to be elevated to root run level privilages to do any harm to the machine, the worms in the nix world rely on this. to get around this u can keep ur most used programs checksumed and check them constantly to see if they have been trojaned. most virus's for linux can only do damage to the files in your account!

md5 can be used for generating checksums - if ur paranoid enough u will have ur checksums on a floppy disk or something. then u can get busy scripting up a small program that automatically checks ur programs checksums.....

Instead of reinventing the wheel with calculating checksums, why not go for tripwire?

I know, sometimes you just have to do stuff because you can or for the fun of it, no matter if it's been done before...
