    Question Monthly AV for Business?

    Hi

We have 40 machines (and growing) that we loan out to different client sites throughout the year. Depending on which client's require them and how many all could be deployed or all could be in storage offline.

So what I'm looking for is a AV package that charges for the protection used. i.e. if 40 machines are active this month we pay $$$, if 20 machines are active the next month we pay half of that.

The system would need to be client-server or cloud based so that we could manage those machines AVs at client sites.

I quite liked the look of AVG's Cloudcare, until I realized it was for resellers only.

Anyone know of anything out there? I'm about to give up

    Thank you

Not necessarily a recommendation, but a worked example on the maths.

A 50 workstation annual licence cost 900 per year.
That's 18 per machine per year.
Or in monthly terms 1.50 per machine per month.

How much time are you going to spend each month on the admin for this? If your gross business cost (wages, taxes, etc) of employing someone is say 30/hr, then 1.50 buys you just 3 minutes of time. Are you really going to save anything here?

Not only do you have to micro-manage the license on your side, your chosen AV vendor will have to micro-manage the licence on their side as well. I'm sure they would, but they'd make YOU pay for it through jacking up the per monthly cost.

You might be better off spending all that admin time on getting one more machine out of storage and onto a customer site, where it can earn its keep.

There is one free AV tool

Whether it meets all your other functional requirements is up to you to determine, but at least it's $0 from a cost point of view.
If you dance barefoot on the broken glass of undefined behaviour, you've got to expect the occasional cut.
If at first you don't succeed, try writing your phone number on the exam paper
