Hello all,
I have a question regarding the .htaccess file. I have setup for my own development Apache 1.13.20 with ssl and php and i run a mysql server on my machine. I have bind (DNS server) installed to cater for my subdomains in Apache. All works and i am fully reachable from the outside world most of the time, that is if my telecom company or ISP doesn't faul up. Oh yes i forgot to mention? all is on a Win 2k server not a linux box. Is it me? or does the .htaccess file and methods within like error redirection, password handling and bandwidth tuning not work on a win 2k box? I am very curious for others that had the same troubles and found a solution to this. Thanks in front for your time... Bassie. ![]()

I can't speak for win2k exactly, but I have Apache, w/PHP4 0 6 and MySQL 32333 running on my win98 machine.
The only htaccess problem I've seen is that the server seems to slow down "really slow" when an htaccess doc is activated, and even more so when there's an htpasswd file in there. I'm not sure why that is, because a call to HTTP/401 via PHP is super fast, and super smooth... I guess what I'm saying is they do work on win98, but I'm sure this doesn't help you.. I can't see them not working on win2k... ? |

no it won't help me...
I wish it did something on my machine, then i could start to look for solutions, on my machine the file(s) got ignored or something. normaly a popbox with your name and pass that you need to fill in would come up but nothing... I am talking about directory protection... Bassie. ![]() |

There are a couple of things that I would check on to make sure your setup is right to use .htaccess
1) Make sure AccessFileName is set to AccessFileName .htaccess 2) In your <Directory container> You need to set AllowOverride All in order to set and directive values from within .htaccess files. |

Here is a excerpt from my httpd.conf file: all of it actualy...
Sorry for the length but the system wouldn't take a attachment of it in a zip file, must be turned off or something... I protected my absolute paths and any host.domain name in it against praying eyes it should be clear enough for people who know. PHP Code:
