general - Apache Download 2.0.55 version

Hi,

This question may be very simple and silly. But i am more confused here.

I am trying to download the binary version with out the work of compilation for me.But i downloaded both soruce and binary format from apache.org. Both has the makefile and requires compilation and dont know what to do.

I downloaded the binaries from the following link.
http://archive.apache.org/dist/httpd/binaries/solaris/

The only difference i could feel between source and binary download is bindist folder which is the additional folder in binary.

Please make me clear. Why this binary download has the makefile to get complied? Where i can get the binaries to start use the apache with out compilation?

Thanks in advance.

Jasmine

I believe the difference is that one is designed to be compiled while the other is designed to be installed via the OS's package manager. I don't know of any freely available unpack and go Apache versions like they make for MySQL.
