I have set this up before with relative ease. After a fresh install of Mandrake 7.2, for some reason, apache won't run.
apachectl start - says that the service is started
apachectl status - gives the following warning:
Looking up localhost
Making HTTP connection to localhost
Alert!: Unable to connect to remote host.
Lynx: Can't access startfile URL
When checking the error.log I see this:
[warn] pid file /usr/local/apache/logs/httpd.pid overwritten -- Unclean shutdown of previous Apache run?
Now, according to my system process list, there is no instance of apache running at any time. I'm sure this is pretty simple, but I can't figure it out right now. I followed all the instructions as per "The Soothingly seamless setup of apache etc etc." with then one exception being that I used the Mysql RPM instead of the source.
Just an FYI: I don't think its a hostname problem. I can telnet to my hostname just fine. But, URL & URL does not work either.
Any help would be great. Thanks
