http file browsing using file filters

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone knows a means of achieving httpd directory browsing using wildcards. (Apache 1.3.12)

eg. http://nadir/onp/live/fas/bal0108r.*;*

We have recently moved from a VMS environment where this is a web server feature (WASD 6.0) . From what I can dig up in the Apache doco and using search engines my only bet would be to write a script or module for this.

Is anyone aware of a native apache way to handle this.
